After reading Santa Olivia, I was pretty excited for this book. I am a fan of Carey's Kushiel series and liked Santa Olivia well enough. But this book was horrible. So much potential lost to some overused, lame excuse for a love story. Loup is a super soldier, bred to not feel fear and has super human reflexes and strength. And the author puts her on a plane to....be a bodyguard for some British punk band. And every destination they go to is filled with Loup and Pilar having sex, having the same cinversation over and over and over again. It was so boring and the end so anti-climactic that it really left me wanting those hours back that were wasted trying to see when Loup would show us what she's really made of instead if pining over Uber Insecure and Whiny Pilar, or the author to go more into the flu pandemic backstory. In conclusion, I now know that Jacqueline Carey should stick to alternate reality adventure love stories and steer clear of science fiction.
