What little story there is here takes ages to develop without ever bothering to flesh out the one dimensional characters that pass through it. Opportunities to expand the story and add real depth and flavor come and go but are provided little attention resulting in a very bland and uninvolving recitation of day to day life. Was this review helpful? I've been reading the series since it was first published and find the afterword from Fledgling both alarming and telling at the same time, this book and its predecessor appear to have been written simply to get something out to earn a paycheck rather than to write a story worthy of the series. I understand the need for a positive cash flow but this book was a sad disservice to the authors and the readers alike.
