    Great Study Guide

As others have said, No, this book will not make you into a Java 2 Programming Proffessional in 21 days. It will, however, take you deep into the Java fundamentals, and get you started on a strong foothold. There are too many subjects within Java to have one book that covers it all. This book is excellent for people that are either Programmer novices, or new to programming altogether. It is also well suited to people with busy lives that need help dividing their studies down into feasible chunks.

A Book Giving General Idea of JAVA for begineers

A good book which is giving a general idea about java. Its good for all begineers to get feel of Java, but to get more knowledge of Java, you have to read and refer some other book...

    Great Book for Beginners

This book is informative and useful. My non-technical mother, is really learning the essence of Java and how to program in it. Be warned that it is better to take the book slowly (maybe Java in 6 months), and to actually do the examples. Understanding programming is essential before beginning this book

    J21 - A GREAT BOOK!

Im an experienced computer user, but new to programming. It's true, this book won't cover EVERY method and constructor for the language, but it goes through every part of the language. Teaches with easy-to-understand examples and lessons. Then, after you're done, just go through some of the more advanced (like swing) parts of the java tutorial on java.sun.com to get the rest of what you need. If you like an EASY TO UNDERSTAND and GRASP book, this book is for you!

This book isn't good at all

This book omits many aspects of Java and the ones that it does cover it doesn't cover in detail. Swing, Utility classes, Input and output are barely mentioned if mentioned at all. I mean come on these are pretty basic things. If you want a really good book on Java check out Ivor Horton's Beginning Java 2. I only give this book one star because there was no option for no stars.

    too general

The beginning was very helpful, as I'd never done OO programming before. But the rest of the book continues to be basic. I learned Java in 21 days, but now I have to go back and read another book to really LEARN it! I don't feel I can do much after reading the book, I just have a general understanding of what Java can do.

    too basic

The first edition of this book was very good. This new edition contains very few new information and failed to match the other Java books available now.It is simply out of date for a serious Java learner and includes far too few information on swing.

Why you believe it is so good?

I don't think it is a worthy book. 3 star is more than enough. For beginners, there is a lot of other choices. Core Java --Fundemantal. Java Tutorial etc.
