Amazing!

Anton S. LaVey is an amazing author, I enjoyed this book greatly. This gives a totally different perspective on the world than most people have, and answers a lot of questions about Satanism. I loved this book.

The Most Intelligent Mind I've Ever Known!!!

After reading this book 45 times over the last 6 years, I can only say one thing. READ IT!!! Read it thoroughly. I have tried and tried to find contradictions, but I can find none. To completely understand everything that the author states in this book, you must have first studied other religions. He is absolutely correct.
He say's everything that I thought, but could never find the words to say it. He says it so eloquently, at that. Have an open mind and remember that this was written in 1967. Think about the mindset of society at that time. This man had huge balls and conviction because it is truth.
I didn't need to read it to believe it. It reinforced what I already believed to be true.
If you are religious, it will plant the seed of doubt in your mind. That seed of doubt will sprout and grow to maturity. The fruit it will bare is "TRUTH."
As LaVey said, "The truth alone has never set anyone free. Only doubt will bring mental emancipation. Without the wonderful element of doubt, the window through which truth passes would be imperviously shut to the most strenuous poundings of a thousand lucifers."
He also said, "He that is slow to believe anything and everything is of great understanding. For the belief in one false principle, is the beginning of all un-wisdom."
    ENJOY--ENJOY--ENJOY!!!!!!!!

    Life Changing

Ok so I saw in some of the reviews people saying that this book proves revelations 20-10? If you actually READ this book it proves why right hand religions are wrong. Also that this is about atheism rather than satanism. Again if you READ this book you will see that it is all about satanism and what satanists believe. This book was incredibly useful for me. I learned SO much in a short period of time. This is not like the holy bible at all. It is easy to follow easy to understand and easy to read. I would recommend this book to ANYONE that wishes to delve into satanism and what satanists believe.

    I Also Recommend:

More of a Philosophy then a religion.

An extremely Humanist view on life. It is easy to tell how Anton Lavey was inspired by Nietzsche and Sartre. This book is an extremely good read, and will open your eyes to the reality of Satanism.

    Interesting, but not the best

I am Catholic, but I still enjoyed the book. I thought the overall quality of the book was alright, but I've seen better. The book does explain LaVey's religion, and he explained how great his religion is, just as any other religion does. It was pretty interesting just seeing how Satanists worship. I can't say I really liked his ideas on religion, but I respect them as a tolerant American should, so I'm going to rate the book putting all religious ideas aside.

The Future will revere this Masterpiece!

There are basically FOUR kinds of Satanists in the world. I'll delineate them for you, so you'll know the truth. 1) LaVeyan Satanists who are for the most part, atheistic/humanistic who regard Satan as symbolic, a heroic archetype of freethought and independence. 2) Theistic Satanists who regard Satan as a real god of evil and worship the same. 3) Theistic Satanists who believe real good and evil, real god and the devil have been reversed, and the guy masquerading as the Creator is the true source of evil, while Satan is actually a good and noble being of light! [Since #s two and three are based more or less on Xian mythology, and Xianity is the world's most idiotic religion, we can dispense with 2 and 3 as valid attempts to display reality. That leaves 4, the Satanism of Heavy Metal groups [totally ostentatious showmanship of little or no merit] and the stupid teenagers, many of them drug-crazed and emotionally disturbed, who sometimes actually perform some really sick and twisted acts, based on the idiotic 'rites' of Satanism invented by the RC church during the middleages and total hogwash. As we can see, Satanism variety 2, 3 and 4 are bogus, that leaves LaVeyan Satanism as the only credible and sane form of Satanism. I believe the future generations will hold Anton LaVey [who died in '93]in as much esteem as we hold geniuses of the past like Beethoven, Mozart, Shakespeare. Anton LaVey's no BS philosophy is far superior to any of the famous philosophers of yesteryear like Kant, Mill, Russell, Nietzsche. However, Nietzsche's philosphy, you might say, is a foundation for LaVey's philosophy. Without spoiling the fun of reading this jewel of jewels of books ever written by humanoids, let us say, there is only one sin in Satanism and that is Stupidity, since it spawns all the other sins that are REAL, not imaginary like consumerism, herd mentality, conformism, and the slave virtues of obedience, humility, forgiveness etc. etc. I sometimes wonder why we needed LaVey to tell us that valuing virtues like Courage, Intelligence, Fortitude, Independence, Strength, Beauty, Majesty and Power would lead to a better world. Thanks mostly to Jesus Christ, who is one thing, and his moronic followers, for whose idiocies even Jesus cannot totally be blamed, the slave virtues have been incorporated in the legal and cultural systems of almost every society on Earth. Mankind was not meant to live in chains. LaVey is like the great atheistic anarchist Bakunin, an atom bomb of truth dropped on the stupidities and hypocrisy of modern societies. There is only one sin in Satanism and that is stupidity, and frankly the bulk of humanity are chattel, idiots and fools, worthy of extermination like the vermin they are. Stephen King in his commentary to The Stand said 'We are a species ripe for thinning'. Would to God, I mean Satan, that 99.99% of humanity perished in some plague, so the rest could experience for the first time in 2000 years, some peace, quiet and freedom. I myself am not some teenage Heavy Metal enthusiast---although I love Marilyn Manson, a legit Satanist, and honorary high priest of the COS---I am 45 years old, and I was a Satanist before I even knew what the word meant. At any rate, you might be surprised that Anton LaVey in his masterpiece does not advocate rape, human sacrifice, cannibalism, torture of animals or any of the myths that fundamentalists like to propagate in their churches. True some idiots actually do these things, but LaVeyan Satanists, while not 'harmless', are for the most part law-abiding citizens, except for such laws that were created by idiots and violate human freedom and dignity. They need to be broken by all of us, like the widespread and almost total disregard of anti-alcohol laws during the Prohibition era. Why has America gone through such periods? It is because the balance of power has shifted from the young, the intelligent and the educated, but to geriatric feeble old ladies, or senile old men

    Very good!!!

my brother bought this book and at first i thought it would be a little weird and hard to read. but my brother read it and then i read it. i like how it explains the opinions really good. the thing with the regular bible and churches is that they don't really explain their opinions very well. they just basically expect you to believe it. with this book they opinions are explained very thoroughly. the only problem i had with this book was i had problems understanding it at times most likely because I'm 12 but other than that it was a very good book especially if you want to know more about satanism. this book gives you the facts and doesn't use stereotypes that you might read on the internet.

    Whatever

As you'll be able to see, I was not impressed. I'll stick to my scientific readings, most of them offer SOME sort of intelligent concept, and aren't complete wastes of time. Ironic how anyone can write a book about their opinions and people will follow what they say and call it a religion. It's just like any other book, it's full of someone's ideas. Strange how people say the Holy Bible is "preachy"...perhaps you ought to read it, and not have someone, called a preacher, tell it to you. If Satanism is about "individuality"...why do you all follow this man and his little book like lemmings? Whatever, do whatever you want to do...just stay away from me with your own sordid brand of hypocracy. You don't believe in heaven or hell or a divine being...it's called atheism, not Satanism.

Ready to change your life positively without truly being judged as "evil"?

Throughout my whole life I've been an on and off victim of the christian church. When I was born I was baptized in a catholic church, I went through everything a "normal" civilian would, like communion and all that stuff, I've been to "born again" christian churches, and I've read the overrated Holy Bible many times. But as I grew older I started getting rebellious, throughout my teen years I started listening to "rebellious" music. I was invited to go to a penecostal church, where I was satisfied that "God" is nothing more but unnecessary commitment, rules that just complicate your life, and true meaning of hypocrisy. Not saying that I'm Anton LaVey, but my life went on a similar path. I had cut off from many churches, disatisfied with what pastors were saying, sometimes I would feel good going because their tactics of brainwashing worked, they make you feel "guilty", the whole "tomorrow isn't promised", these so called "men of God" really knew how to hussle you out of you're hard earned money for their needs to build "God's church." I learned that the church tries to make you a more perfect person, like not lusting, and devotion to loved ones, but I began to realize that is impossible, I've seen a person who tried to convert me a "man of God" that told me to go to church, break the rules, and as time went on I despised christianity. One night I went out to a club in Ft. Lauderdale, a hooka bar, and I opened my eyes, beautiful women dressed prostitute-like offering me jello shots, people dancing, having fun, living their lives carefree. I wanted to be normal. I began to dwell into science more after I completely broke away from the churches. Realizing that science disproves religion so much, and the fact religion itself depends on technology, a form of science. I started believing and still believe that us human beings ARE the highest power, due to the fact that we have invented everything. What turned me onto satanism was satan himself. I wanted to know why christianity used this "evil" thing to scare people into loving a complicated "God". I come to find out that this "666", "possesing of evil" that the christians use as a bad image, really isn't that at all. In fact Satan is indeed your friend, he represents everything us humans really are, our fetishes, sexual fantasies, all those things that christians portray as "sins" are normal to our nature. Were only intelligent animals, so in that case like animals, we reproduce, eat, and all that. We feel love, and we have things that we like as humans, things that christians tell you is wrong, so ask yourself this question, what is the real evil? Read the holy bible, it says "thou shalt kill" yet everything that catholics and christians have done throughout history was contrary to the holy bible, the crusades, killing in the name of a religion that says "thou shalt not kill". That is the definition of true blasphemy, yet they use satan as the evil doer. People have their beliefs, whatever makes you feel good about yourself, by all means dwell in it. This book is the most positive book I probably ever read. Believe, it doesn't teach you to go ahead and rape people, do home invasions in the name of the devil, burn an upsidedown cross in your head, and summon evil to possess you, that is the rubbish that christianity portrays satanism

    Perfect

Somtimes I think to myself Could Anton be Satan himself? On the the other hand the left hand, he was and is the greatest Satanist to walk this earth.

    hypnus9 or mr. hypocrite?

Couldn't help but notice the book bashing of Mr. LaVey's "satanic bible", (i always read those to see how small minded people can be). But my question to "Hynus9's" comment is.....If your a christian or whatever you claim to be (i assumed it since you felt the need to egg it in Gods name),...why did you purchase & read a satanic bible? It doesn't say much about your God if you felt the need to read a bible that goes against all the you are "suppose to" believe in. I read Mr. LaVey's book many years ago(at about 14)& thought it was very easy to read & truly made me more inquisitive about the whole religion thing(not to mention not afraid to ask questions of pastors or priests...which usually go unanswered, besides"we are not to question God")...what kind of bull is that?It was a good book & I'd personally like to thank Mr.LaVey because that 1st book on the occult I read made me follow the path that I was MEANT to follow & have been a very "happy witch" ever since..(& I'm now 41).To Mr."hypnus9", thank u too...its christians like u that keep me faithful in my path...think its time to give it another read......dark blessings to u.(thats a good thing..not evil.)

The FIRST book to read for the truth about SATANISM today.

This book is definitive in the field of Satanism today. It is not influenced by any other religious belief system. Dr. LaVey, in founding the Church of Satan, and writing the Bible used by the Church, started a Satanic revolution that spread worldwide in a matter of a few years. This title started the whole thing. It will open the eyes of anyone with an open mind.

    SUPERB !

LaVey is a man of masterful words and ideals, this book is truely revolutionary. It just doesn't contradict itself like the other religions, more specificly the 'Holy Bible'. Anton LaVey should be remembered as KING, not a man!

    Okay

This book isn't greatly written nor terribly. It's kind of interesting, but it doesn't contain anything very original, much less profound. Really, it's not much to get worked up over, positively or negatively. Mainly, I'd suggest it for people interested in religion.
