Great CD, but the OBC is better
The Scarlet Pimpernel is, despite what reviewers have said (please ignore the AMG review!) an excellent show that is exactly what it is designed to be; entertainng, uplifting, and a raucously funny good time. This recording is a good representation of how the show appeared after the revisions and cast changes. While the show is overall a better production for the changes, the OBC is a better disc, if only because of Terrence Mann's impecable performance as Chauvelin and the deleted tracks, some of which are truly beautiful. The one element that shines on both this CD and the OBC is the glorious and moving performance of Douglas Sills as Sir Percival Blakeney/the Scarlet Pimpernel. While I prefer the OBC, this CD is still an excellent recording of a great show. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
