Easy read with great Christian values. I enjoyed the parallel stories in which both Sierra and Mary Kathryn resisted their physical and spiritual journeys yet found their way in the end. Great to read Christian fiction!

The rating of one star is not what I would give this, but it won't let me give it five. Bummer. I REALLY THINK ALL HER BOOKS DESERVE 5 STARS!! I only wish there were more for me to choose. I go to the bookstore and stand as though I think some new book will appear. Hurry, Francine, Hurry!

    Absolutely Splendid

The Scarlet Thread is without a doubt one my all time favorites. It was the first Francine Rivers' book I had ever received and read. At the time, I was just coming out of a six year relationship that had truly ended badly. I realized after reading this, that yes, sometimes things work out the way you want them to. However, sometimes they don't, yet there is always a reason why. It really helped me to understand how I was feeling and helped me get through that rough patch I was going through.

Definitely a must read!!! I would highly recommend this book to anyone!!!

This book was beautiful. It was incredibly moving and had me in tears several times the book touched me so deeply. A couple with children dealing with adultery and separation is always a difficult thing....Francine did a wonderful job of showing how faith and Jesus can help you move past this and give you strength during hard times. An incredible read!

    An Okay Read

I've read most of Francine Rivers books and found this to be somewhat enjoyable but it does not rate at the top with The Mark of the Lion series or Redeeming Love.

I loved this book , I even read it twice in one week.

It deals with adultry but the real story is the unconditional love God gives us and how we can extend that to others. There are two stories going at the same time. I found that facinating. The main character Sierra is reading a long dead relative's journal while she is on her own life's journey. The beauty and pain in it made me cry. I have been through this same situation and found it very real. She captured so many of my feelings and my husband's also. It may be painful but in the end God's hand is seen in all our lives. Some people who haven't been through this may find it uncomfortable but I think it will help you to understand better. I felt drawn to God after reading it.

I enjoyed this book very much. It tells two parallel stories - one of modern-day Sierra Madrid, and one of pioneer Mary Kathryn. The two threads have similarities, but they are unique. Excellent book!

    Very Good Story

Actually the book is two storys; one of a present day woman who lost her Faith that her mother instilled in her growing up. She hated the fact that her successful husband made her move from her girlhood home in a small town to the big city. After they were divorced she renewed her Faith in God and found real meaning in the quilt that belonged to her great-grandmother. The second story is also about a pioneer woman losing her Faith because her husband made her move out West and how she found her Faith again. The end of the book has a surprise ending.

    Great book!

I have to admit that I am a big fan of Francine Rivers, so my review may be biased. I think that she writes stories that resonate with the average reader - there is something in Rivers' stories for everyone. In this novel, we meet a normal couple (Sierra and Alex) who married and started a family when they were young. When the husband gets a job opportunity in another city (requiring them to move away from their respective families), their lives start to unravel. What some might view as a minor upheaval becomes a marriage crisis for this couple. This contemporary story is told against the backdrop another story - the story of Sierra's ancestor, Mary Kathryn. The stories are not parallel, which makes use of the technique interesting. Nevertheless, seeing both women endure their respective hardships, and seeing them both realize how God is working in their lives even during these bleak periods, was a compelling read for me. I will admit, however, that I found the ending to be a little heavy-handed, even for Christian fiction, but it did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the book.
