Once again Francine Rivers has brought the pages of her book to life. She's made her characters real to me. I feel what they feel. I see what they see. This, as all of her books, was WONDERFUL. The rating of one star is not what I would give this, but it won't let me give it five. Bummer. I REALLY THINK ALL HER BOOKS DESERVE 5 STARS!! I only wish there were more for me to choose. I go to the bookstore and stand as though I think some new book will appear. Hurry, Francine, Hurry!

Easy read with great Christian values. I enjoyed the parallel stories in which both Sierra and Mary Kathryn resisted their physical and spiritual journeys yet found their way in the end. Great to read Christian fiction!

This book was beautiful. It was incredibly moving and had me in tears several times the book touched me so deeply. A couple with children dealing with adultery and separation is always a difficult thing....Francine did a wonderful job of showing how faith and Jesus can help you move past this and give you strength during hard times. An incredible read!

I loved this book , I even read it twice in one week.

It deals with adultry but the real story is the unconditional love God gives us and how we can extend that to others. There are two stories going at the same time. I found that facinating. The main character Sierra is reading a long dead relative's journal while she is on her own life's journey. The beauty and pain in it made me cry. I have been through this same situation and found it very real. She captured so many of my feelings and my husband's also. It may be painful but in the end God's hand is seen in all our lives. Some people who haven't been through this may find it uncomfortable but I think it will help you to understand better. I felt drawn to God after reading it.

    Very Good Story

Actually the book is two storys; one of a present day woman who lost her Faith that her mother instilled in her growing up. She hated the fact that her successful husband made her move from her girlhood home in a small town to the big city. After they were divorced she renewed her Faith in God and found real meaning in the quilt that belonged to her great-grandmother. The second story is also about a pioneer woman losing her Faith because her husband made her move out West and how she found her Faith again. The end of the book has a surprise ending.

Such a great book! I think I liked it so much because I see myself in Sierra. Great story about a couple who want their own way and it tears them apart. But God is always there to heal and restore. I also loved that there is a kind of side story very similar to the main story but based on Sierra's ancestor.

The Scarlet Thread by Francine Rivers is NOT my favorite book. I

The Scarlet Thread by Francine Rivers is NOT my favorite book. It probably never will be, no matter how many times I read it. I can't even say I like Sierra, the main character of the novel, or what she does, or Alex, the other main character. Why not? Because reading this book is like holding up a mirror and looking at myself, square in the face. Never did I feel I was inside Sierra's mind, but often I felt she had invaded mine.
This novel actually is a story within a story, telling the story of Sierra along side the story of Mary Katherine. Both left their comfortable life among family to follow their husbands, and did this unwillingly. Though many years separated them, the two stories (Mary Katherine's narrative told through her journal which survived all those centuries) are closer than is comfortable. This clearly shows that humans through the ages have battled the same enemy. Ms. Rivers does not hesitate to write about the hard issues, and does not gloss over the repercussions that might arise from them.
This is truly a romantic story, not so much between husband and wife, though that is definitely there, but between God and His crowning creation. How He pursues us, and uses our choices and decisions to call us to Him. How He is always there, waiting for us to turn to Him at our lowest point, when we feel the most insignificant and always loving us, even when our determination is to have nothing to do with Him.
So even though this is not my favorite book by Francine Rivers, this is one that has a permanent and prominent spot on my bookselves.

    Moving story

Sierra Madrid has spent much of her life getting her way. When her husband Alex has the job opportunity of a lifetime (that he has been dreaming about for years) he jumps on it - and then informs her of his decision, even though the transition requires them to move. She is not consulted, she is brokenhearted - and she spends the next few years being angry. And we are off on the journey of a marriage with communication gone seriously wrong.

I'm celebrating my 15th anniversary today. It has not always been easy; it's not always been hard, either. :) But I know from experience, the miscommunications people have in marriage can really lead to major heartache, and Sierra and Alex's story is a perfect example of this. Francine Rivers writes a moving tale of heartbreak and ultimately renewal that is not only a great read, but a lesson everyone can learn from.
