I have read an inordinate number of parenting books over the years - something of a hobby - and this is THE one and only book that has made complete sense to me - beginning to end. Mr. Runkel's tone is real and encouraging. His principles...applicable to every single family. Throw out the charts, toss the gold stars and buy yourself a copy of this incredibly empowering book. ScreamFree Parenting can change your world. It's certainly changed mine.

I was hoping for so much more than what this book provided. This book is about consequences and following through with them. It really is just commonsense, there is not much more to the book. At the end of each chapter, you answer a series of questions to reflect on how you feel. This book was of no help to my situation. However, I found another series of books on parenting. The "How to Talk" series by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. They really give parents concrete tools for effective communication and correcting behaviors. I would highly recommend that series of books, not this one.

Borrowed from the library, then bought to keep as a reference.

This book looks at parenting from a different angle. The message is that, at the end of the day, the only one you can really change is you. Obvious, but a revelation nonetheless. How you act, react, or fail to react affects your children, their behavior, and your relationship. That the book is very well written, easy and enjoyable to read is just a bonus.

    A reviewer

ScreamFree Parenting is the first parenting book I've read that just gets it - don't try to get your kid to do this or do that...you'll just end up driving yourself crazy. Instead, the author not only tells us to focus on ourselves and how we act first (which seems so simple but is so rare these days) but gives us story after story demonstrating it. I highly recommend this book to new parents and old parents alike.

    Thank You!!!

This is by far the best parenting book I have read. The basic concept is the same as some but is presented in such a way that is very acceptable. I have already put this to work with my teenager and to my surprise he is taking it very well. I have bought this book for two friends already. We will all be screamfree parents in no time. Thank you again. : )

    MUST READ!

This is one of the best books on parenting ever written. Destined to be a classic.

    Good thoughts.

This was not really a how to book. This did give good thoughts on how to view your children as people and respect their space and ideas while keepingnyour cool and setting boundaeies/rules.
