I'm a huge fan of Ms. Collins's work, especially the Sonja Blue series. This short story, however, felt rather flat. Perhaps it was a limitation of the short story format, but this story had no surprises or even plot turns in its execution. In fact, it seemed more like a snippet from a larger story. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
The two supporting characters were fairly well-developed and had some humorous interactions, but there was no development or even explanations for the antagonist or even Sonja herself.
On the plus side, I've always enjoyed the way Ms. Collins describes scenery and action. She conveys the essential pieces and paints an ideal picture in the reader's mind without droning on with unessential details.
If you've read the rest of the Sonja Blue series, then this is probably essential reading just to continue her story. However, if you're new to the series, you're better off picking up the individual novels or the "Midnight Blue" collection to start with.
