The greatest racehorse to step foot on a track

This big beautiful book brings back the magnificence of Big Red like no other. Crammed with photos of everything from the his Jockey Club ID photo as a foal, to workouts and races, grooming and bathing, and of the people around him - Penny (Tweedy) Chenery, Lucian Lauren, Eddie Sweat, Ron Turcotte and others - these alone are worth the price of admission. The photo of him and Turcotte taking off in the Preakness is as close to a flying horse as you'll ever see. The text is an engaging biography from Secretariat's earliest days at Meadow Farm, to his record shattering, history making races, to his success in the breeding barn - including photos and deeds of a few of his most accomplished get - and ends with his untimely death at only 19 years. It's chock full of the history of, and interviews with, those who surrounded this great horse, and well known racing people who witnessed him run. As a horse loving 12 year old I watched history being made in 1973 - though it was only on the television - and knew even in my youth and naivete that I would never see a feat that magnificent again. This book is a must have for those who loved, and still love, this horse and racing. And for those who doubt - read the book. You will doubt no more.

    The best horse ever!!!

when I read this book, I thought that it was going to be a boring biography, but its not!!! IT is very interesting, it talks about Secretariat growing into a handsome colt, and the people who were involved in his life.Don't forget about all of his incredible races! This is probably one of the greatest books on Secretariat!

    Highly recommended. Great pictures.

I am not very well versed in horse racing, but this book was captivating. I learned a great
deal about the racing world and about horses in general. There is a mystique about this
horse & this book helps to extend it. A very enjoyable read.

    Wonderful photos!

Great book by the photographer Raymie Woolfe, who photographed Secretariat throughout his racing career and beyond. Beautiful photos and narration. Great book on a great horse!
