    Not what I expected

I saw the author on several History Channel shows and picked up the book because it sounded intriguing. Unfortunately, I quickly tired of the authors paraphrasing...even of Bible passages. While there is a lot to be learned here and some thought provoking material, I kept getting the same feeling I got when I read L. Ron Hubbard's 'Dianetics' many years ago. All the euphamisms for God (The Eternal, The Supreme, etc.) made me wonder if there wasn't some other motive afoot.

Long on opinion, short on content

This book I thought would have more emperical data on the history of the actual Bible scrolls and the history of why certain writing were included and other not also including the cultural influences of the time. Instead this is almost a translation of lost scrolls (a very loose almost slang authors translation) of what he interprets these lost scrolls to mean. This is more a book that would support you if you are just looking for an emotional kickstand to refute the Bible and you don't care if its based in any fact. Very poorly written and even less useful information.
