I'm going to tell on myself here but the book just arrived in the mail yesterday. After everyone settled into bed, I plopped down onto my big comfy chair and opened it to read one chapter (that's what I told myself). It was 11 p.m. when I began the book and before I knew what happened I read the whole thing. Sad part about it - 6.30 a.m. (today) came way too early. This tale has a little bit of everything. It's an inspirational romance with suspense / mystery / medical drama - set back in the early 1800's. It's the suspense / mystery that kept me flipping page after page wanting to know all the deep dark secrets the villains had. The roadblock in between Libby and the earl (Devlin) kept my gut tightened in knots while I waited for the road to crumble and their love for one another to bind them together adding to the rising suspense in this book. I truly loved both of their characters. The overall plot, the romance, the problems, the details, the secondary characters, primary charters, settings, and medical issues Jillian Kent, the author, has crafted far surpassed my expectations. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

This was like two different books. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the book, before Maddie was sent to the asylum. The pace was slightly slow but the characters were developed and interesting. But in the last half, it was like the author realized she wasn't going to get everything in the book if she kept at that pace and sped things up, cramming in everything else she had in the story. It also bothered me that although God was mentioned in the first part of the book, the last part turned super religious. It was like they turned on a switch from just a casual relationship with God to one where they were super reliant on Him. It seemed very fake.

Overall, the good outweighed the bad. It was an enjoyable read and like one of the previous reviews said, it sucks you in and you have to keep reading!

    Love Regency romance stories?

Madeline Whittington is still mourning the death of her father, even though the prescribed period of mourning has passed. She meets the Earl of Ravensmoore by chance, and recognizes him as one of the doctors responsible for her father's death. He tried to tell her how it happened, but she will not hear him. Still, their friendship grows. Madeline's mother remarries Lord Vale, a man Madeline does not trust. Madeline goes to Ravensmoore for assistance, which leads them both into great danger.

If you love romance stories in the Regency era, you'll love this one. Kent pens a group of wonderfully complex characters and a plot so surprising and eerie that I couldn't put the book down. I loved Ravensmoore's character, and his desire to be a doctor despite his having the title of "earl." I can't wait to read whatever Jillian Kent writes next. Highly recommended.

    Superb Writing!

Jillian Kent did an excellent job at writing about asylums in the early part of regency England. She brought her characters to life, so real that I was encaptured and could not put the book down. the plot was excellent and drew in the readers. I felt I was there and was experiencing the life of horror in the retched asylum, as well as life in the warmth of a home such as Devlin's Ravensmoore!

Great read and would recommend to anyone who loves history and romance! And a little mystery!

    Good series

I enjoy reading more than one book... i love series in which get to a point where im invested in the charachters. Well done. Uplifting, and enlightening, without being overly preachy, or denominational.

    Heart warming

Maddie is she insane or can she truely be that subborn? Devlin is he insane or just trying to follow the will of God in his life? Can these two ever come together or will darker forces keep them apart
