I've been a fan of the Dark Swan series since it came out, and I could not wait to read this last installment. I do not think Eugenie's decisions were unfounded, nor do I think the ending was poor. In fact, I think this book was the exciting and spectacular ending that the Dark Swan series deserved. The book is emotional, continuing the theme of Eugenie's constant struggles with her dual life. Her relationships with Dorian and Kiyo play out against the greater plot of motherhood and regency in a struggling kingdom. There is also a well-thought out and cleverly hinted at plot twist that will blow readers away. Do NOT miss this book. It is 100% worth reading.

Like others, it was the ending that really ruined this book

I've liked the series up until the last book. I honestly can't believe that Mead is leaving us with that as the "end"...What end??? Way too many questions at the end for my liking. I mean I don't know about other readers, but when I think of the last book in a series ...
I've liked the series up until the last book. I honestly can't believe that Mead is leaving us with that as the "end"...What end??? Way too many questions at the end for my liking. I mean I don't know about other readers, but when I think of the last book in a series I think of closure. This book provided anything but.
I seriously could've given this book a better rating like 4 or 5, ignoring some of the annoying character traits that wound up getting portrayed by the character in this book. I just kept reading hoping that things would be resolved or at least more solid in certain aspects, only to realize that I was at the last page and left hanging. This big disappointment is reflected in my rating.

THIS BOOK IS TRASH. And not trashy/fun--just garbage.

I have to admit, reading these other reviews I still had hopes for a semi-good ending. NOT SO. Eugenie is a hypocritical, lying, cold-hearted, selfish you-know-what. Why, do you ask? I'll tell you, but with this warning first:

    SPOILER ALERT******

Throughout the entire book you're rooting for her to finally get over her moral highground about being betrayed by Dorian and his plans involving her and the Iron Crown. She whines about his decietful nature and drags her feet when it comes to admitting she still has feelings for him. All the while Dorian is being supportive, truthful, thoughtful, and surprisingly selfless. While the action part of the story is decent, the end of the book makes you want to shout every four letter word out there. Long story short: the babies are not Kiyo's--they're Dorian's. She decides to lie and not tell him this fact, claiming she's trying to protect the babies. However, she still wants to continue their relationship. LYING B****. She is denying a father is God-given rights. I honestly can't believe that Richelle Mead could be so low and sleazy with this last book. Read the book if you don't believe me, and then throw it at the wall. As a mother and a wife, this book disgusts me. I read to escape the world and have some light-hearted fun, NOT to be forced into what's wrong with our society today. Richelle Mead seems to be like the type to get divorced and use the kids as leverage, turn the father into the bad guy, deny his rights to see them, manipulate the events leading up to the disintigration of the marriage to sway the judge into giving her sole custody, pretend she's the victim, and then go out to party while the kids are at some other relations house.

Terrible book. Shame on the author.

I have read many of Richelle books.I have enjoyed all, but with this series i can say I could not wait for bedtime
so I could read about our dark swan, who has shared my days and nights with. I knew it was the last book.
I was willing to say goodbye......But what i got was disappointment! I don't know if this is some kind of marketing scam.
But I will never read another book by Richelle Mead! The ending was not right on so many levels. You should be
black listed for this kind of garbage! It is amazing how someone so talented could do such a thing. If your ploy was
to cause controversy ....well you got it!  I spend a great deal of money on my books. You will not be getting anymore from me.
I will write my own ending.

    DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Such a disappointing end to the series. I am never a person to not finish a series no matter how bad it is, just as I can't stand not finishing a book or a movie even if it sucks. That being said, if I could go back in time, I would not read this book even though I read the fist 3 books of the series. I was so excited to read this because the beginning of the series was so promising, but you would be better off skipping this book and imagining your own ending.

    Major let down

That was the worst ending I think I have ever read. All the anticipation of finding out Dorian was the father, not Kiyo and she decides not to tell him. Truly stupid. How can the author actually think that was a good ending.

    Unfulfilling Conclusion

This series got worse as it progressed. The first 2 novels were good but the fourth stunk. It seems as if the plot for the last novel was just thrown together at the last minute in order to fulfill a contract. The Dresden Files are way better than Dark Swan.
