This book came out in 2006. Ikd about your town but the PJ craze didn't start in my state until 2009, when the Last Olympian came out. Also, the charactors and gods are completely different. Stop saying it is based on Percy Jackson just because it is about mytholigy. I have always loved reading mytholigy books, so I can tell you that there were fiction books about Greek mytholigy before Percy Jackson, and ther will be books about Greek mytholigy after. Percy Jackson just made this genre populor to those who didn't already love reading it.
Also, about this book, I loved it. Though it was slow in the beginning, it picks up and has non-stop action afterward. I am going to get the next book soon.

Not Very Good

Complete fail at writing a book about Greek mythology. If you want a good mythology book, read Rick Riordan.

    Eh...

The author just goes into TOO much detail when she describes every little thing, and it gets silly after a while.
Also, some parts were a little boring and made me dread reading this book.
Lastly though, some of the chapters were WAY too confusing. This is greek mythology here, and if you don't know all the characters you need to make sure the author is explaining each one... and that's not really what Ms. Ursu does..

It was okay other than that though.... ha-ha! :)

Decent, but maybe just not a book for me

At first I fell in love with the type of voicing this story had, with its intense sarcasm and all, but it grew a little old when the story didn't have more to offer. In the really intense, dark parts, the humor could have been more well-crafted. It brought me right out of the tension, and so later I had to think "Oh yeah, this is a scary part, I forgot!" and had to place myself back in, which shouldn't be.

The villain was also a bit cliche, and I would've liked more motive on his part. And character. Sure, he's a bad guy who acts like a gentleman, gets angry at all the right times, but he's just another cardboard villain.

There were some good scenes, though, and I did like the mystery of everyone getting sick in the beginning (although I was a little angry when the reason was just told to us, instead of letting the audience try and figure it out for themselves.

Anyway, a decent book. I can understand why some people would love the action and the voice, but it didn't really do it for me.
