Such an exciting sequel!
Such an exciting sequel! The opening for this book is fast-paced and it never stops. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
Following Colors of Deception, Shadows leaves behind the viewpoint of demonic lodestone Holly and instead enters the head of auguren Peter. That transition allows Cantrell to introduce some amazing new depth and mystery to the Saltmarch universe.
While the first book in the series only really flirted with fantasy elements until the very end, Shadows after Midnight is rich with the mystical aspects of Cantrell's universe, showing demons and demonhunters in full battle.
Still, at heart it's a story about characters. It's fascinating to see the relationships that shape Peter, and to watch him struggle with his own past and shortcomings every bit as much as he struggles with the demons of Saltmarch.
I loved it. Can't wait for the last book in the series.
