This was an enjoyable book. The romance between Luke and Alex was incredibly sweet. The plot was interesting and exciting without seeming as if the author was trying too hard. The parts about religion were a bit long, but they didn't come across as preachy. One of the truly few things I disliked about this book was the character of Alex. She was annoying. She didn't connect well with me. Her personality generally wasn't likable and she was simply irritating with her grating personality.

    The territory of RidgeClan is mostly a sandy ridge, but it becomes lusher and flatter as it nears the bottom of a canyon. The canyon is a deep valley river that jack-knifes through a pair of sandstone mountains. The RidgeClan camp is situated in a small hollow on the mountain face, protected from the blustery winds and rain. Thistlebushes and prickly pear guard the entrace, hiding it from view. The training hollow for the apprentices is a sandy pit by the rivers edge, down in the gorge. A dead tree overhangs it, acting as a great source of cobwebs. A little bit higher up the river, a yawning cave entrance rears from the dry earth, revealing a small brook with trickles from its gaping mouth, feeding the river. Healthy green herbs live beside the river. The walls are coated with dripping moss. In the far back of the cavern, a large pool of dark water blocks the path, a single stalagtite dripping continuously into the pool. It is only lit by glowing fungi rimming the walls. This is where StarClan communes with RidgeClan.

    Rules ::
No godmodding what so ever.
The deputy will become leader if the leader is absent, unexcused, or more than a week.
The same goes for medicine cat and mentors.
There are no foxes in the desert, so no fox attacks. Only coyotes.
Do not make "magic prey". You must actually go out and catch prey, then placing it in the fresh-kill pile. To get prey, you must go to the fresh-kill pile and take something that is there.
Be as active as possible!
A moon equals a month, so it should take a newborn kit about week to become old enough to be an apprentice. Same for an apprentice to a warrior.
No unrealistic pelt colors of wings, powers, etc. . .
Weather will be posted daily at the next res. You will be expected to check it and go along with it.
This is the desert. It is dry. Your cat does get thirsty.
And there are plenty of rattlers hiding in the rocks and shrubs. You cannot avoid them all. . .
ONLY the medicine cat knows herbs. It he/she is not on, find another medicine cat or let them suffer or die. It's life.
The deputy can only do ceremonies if the leader says they are going away and put the deputy in charge.
Have fun!
