Shakespeare is not a writer of "stories." He is a poet whose dramatic poems have a narrative or story line. That is, as with any poetry, the meaning of his works lies primarily in the language. "Shakespeare" vanishes. All that remains when the poetry is destroyed is a bare plot line. This may be compared to removing the flesh and blood of a man and keeping the skeleton. Ms. Nesbitt's text was published in 1907 for children. "Thee" and "thou" are easy words, used in the Bible and many older writings.
