Durango, Texas has a problem with a killer, and Lillianna Rodrig

Durango, Texas has a problem with a killer, and Lillianna Rodriguez is the police investigator in charge. Her partner is about to go on vacation, but Rodriguez is not looking forward to a stranger helping her investigate. To remove his son from the influence of his white supremacist stepfather, Texas Ranger Cody Jackson just moved to Durango with his son, only to be immediately consumed in the investigation. Variations on the theme of bullying twist through the story and include abuse against people due to race, physical handicap, or members of a family, while Rodriguez and Jackson romance enjoy each other.

This is a good romantic suspense novel wrapped around a murder investigation as each party deals with family issues. Put this on your ‘to read’ list if you enjoy a quick romantic suspense.

    Received from NetGalley.

An insightful and entertaining read. My Rating: 4 out of 5 sta

    An insightful and entertaining read.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received a temporary e-galley of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I loved the first in this series and so naturally I was psyched to hear that Daley had written a sequel. Even though this is a sequel, this novel can stand on its own. This book focuses on new characters and a new plot.

Having said that, I adored this book. Daley has the ability to combine romance and suspense with deeper issues. Her first book she tackled on human trafficking; with this book, she tackled the effects of abuse and the complex issue of immigration and illegal immigration and racism.

I love authors who take on hard topics and still manage to craft a brilliant story. While I would say I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as I did the first one in the series, I still really enjoyed this one.

The characters were intriguing. Cody and Liliana switched off perspectives as the story unfolded and I loved watching them interact as they tried to solve the murders.

I also love how Daley focuses on an older generation as well as characters who are in their teens. Readers are also able to gain insight into teenager Kyle's mind who is ticked at his dad Cody for making them move and is on his way to being racist. I loved watching him grow and develop.

The Christian element was never forced in this novel and I loved that. I also loved watching all the characters progress as the novel developed.

I have read so much suspense that I'm beginning to be able to guess the murderer. I managed to do that with this novel, but that is my only complaint about this novel. All in all it was a great read.

In Summary: This is the second book I've read by Daley and I can assure you it won't be the last. With the ability to combine intriguing characters with a compelling plot that delves into some deeper issues in life, Daley is definitely an author I'll be keeping my eye on.

Warnings/Side-notes: This book was very clean. It does deal with abuse but in a way that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to any reader.

The Wrap-up: Daley writes beautiful, profound, and insightful books that I really enjoy reading. I recommend you read Daley if you like romantic suspense, and especially recommend her if you like Christian romantic suspense.

Margaret Daley in her new book, ┬┐Shattered Silence┬┐ Book Two in

Margaret Daley in her new book, “Shattered Silence” Book Two in The Men of the Texas Rangers Series published by Abingdon Press gives us a contemporary adventure with The Texas Rangers.

From the back cover: Will faith and love be strong enough to survive the storm of violence?

A serial killer is targeting illegal aliens in southern Texas. Texas Ranger Cody Jackson is paired with a local police officer, Liliana Rodriguez, to investigate the murders.

While the case brings Cody and Liliana ever closer, the tension between Americans and Mexican Americans heightens. Fighting their attraction , Cody and Liliana race to discover who is behind the murders and bring peace to the area. What they uncover isn’t what they expected. Will Cody and Liliana’s faith and love be strong enough to survive the storm of violence?

A serial killer that is targeting illegal Mexicans living in Durango, Texas. Cody, a Texas Ranger and Liliana, a Durango police detective, are teaming to find this killer. They, each, are dealing with their own personal problems and it isn’t easy for these two to work together. Now the body count begins to rise as the two teammates struggle to figure out who the killer is to stop him from killing more. I like stories that involve The Texas Rangers. It does not matter to me what time period the story takes place in just so that it involves them. There is a certain personality to this group that captures my attention. Let me say this right off, Margaret Daley does not disappoint, she knows how to ratchet up the tension so that your nerves are strung tight as you work with the officers to figure out who is killing people. “Shattered Silence is about racism, domestic abuse and single parenting. This book is a thriller as the characters are in deadly danger practically from page one. On top of everything Ms. Daley manages to weave a romance into this story that just captivates you. She makes you care for all the characters and their journey. This is also just plain fun and exciting as well. Don’t start this book late at night because it will cost you sleep. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Durango is a nice town in Texas. Police Detective Liliana Rodrig

Durango is a nice town in Texas. Police Detective Liliana Rodriguez has lived in Durango all her life and she knows most of the inhabitants. She loves her job and her family. There's not much time for other things in her life--surely no place for a love life.
Liliana's partner is going on vacation when the new Texas Ranger arrives in Durango.

Texas Ranger Cody Jackson has just moved to Durango, Texas. Soon after he arrived, a pregnant woman was murdered. In the week that follows more people were murdered.
Cody and Liliana are going to work together to solve the case. While doing that they come across a gun smuggling ring. Are the smugglers responsible for the murders, or is there another killer out there?

After an abusive childhood, Liliana has built a wall around her heart. There's no place for a man in her life. Her father was an abuser and her sister is also living with an abusive husband. When she gets to know Cody better, she finds out he is different. Can she let a man into her heart and busy life?

Cody's ex-wife died a couple of months ago. His son Kyle lived with his mom and now comes to live with Cody. He's trying to be the father Kyle needs, but Kyle doesn't like to live with his father and to live in Durango. Soon Kyle will make new friends and he will have to make an important choice in making friends.

Shattered Silence is book 2 in Men of the Texas Rangers series. Although it is the second in a series the book can be read as stand-alone.
I think Margaret Daley has written an enjoyable and exciting story full twists and turns. I kept guessing how the story would end. It was just near the end that I began to suspect the bad guy.
    Nicely done, Margaret!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my review copy.

The Men of the Texas Rangers Book 2

Shattered Silence by Margaret Daley The Men of the Texas Rangers Book 2 Texas Ranger Cody Jackson has just moved to Durango, Texas from Houston. After the death of his ex-wife he now has full custody of his fifteen year old son, Kyle. Instead of moving to the quiet town he imagined….he has a murder to solve within hours of his arrival. And it only escalates from there. Police Detective Liliana Rodriguez will do all she can do to protect the people of Durango but especially her family. She demands control in her life because she didn’t have any growing up with an abusive father. Because of her father she never wanted to trust a man to have any control in her life….and then she met Cody Jackson. The first book in this series is Saving Hope, excellent book. Even though they are a series they can definitely be read as stand alone books. Shattered Silence is full of individual stories. Cody trying to be the father that Kyle needs. Kyle step-dad had raised him to hate anyone different, he is now faced with making his own choices. The book has bullies and the damage they can cause….no matter what age. And of course the murders. Margaret does a great job of keeping the reader guessing who the villain is by throwing in several guilty looking suspects. Never a dull moment. **Received through NetGalley for review
