Beautiful photography, compelling stories
I bought this book partially because some of the proceeds go to animal rescue efforts. Being a big mushpot when it comes to animals (and especially dogs,) I was moved and frankly, a little amazed at the portraits inside this book. Traer Scott mentions in the book the innate dignity dogs have, and she's not wrong. These animals, their trials and often heartbreaking ends are compelling--anyone who believes animals deserve a life without abuse and neglect and more than that, a life cared for by people who love them, will appreciate this book. The tragedy is ongoing, but Scott captures several breathtaking moments. (Also check out her other book, Street Dogs. Just as powerful.)

A beautiful book
Traer Scott's photography is very compelling and her text is very well written. She uses the portraits not only to tell the individual dogs' stories but also to shed light on the issues that dogs face in humane societies and animal shelters everywhere.

WORTH A CHANCE
This book captures the expressions of various shelter dogs through the author's photography. It also gives you an update on the fate of some of these dogs. It is definitely a book worth checking out even if you are not a big dog/animal lover. There should be a copy of this book in every veterinarian's waiting room...I made sure there was one placed in my vet's waiting room.
