Thoroughly researched but no information
This is a very poorly understood part of western history. My hopes for this book were to understand the surrounding issues and also the critical aspects of actual battle and siege. Unfortunately, it seems the author felt he needed to include copious amounts of thoroughly researched but trivial and lost focus upon the big picture and the actual events. There were too many names to keep track of, the maps were unacceptably lacking and poor, the writing style was dry and uninteresting, and I was left still looking to understand the background as well as the critical events of the final battle.
