As Christmas day nears, Bree and her faithful search-and-rescue
As Christmas day nears, Bree and her faithful search-and-rescue dog Samson follow the trail of a troubling mystery into the snowy forests of Rock Harbor.
Bree Matthews is preparing for Christmas guests, but her heart is reeling from the recent and tender loss of her unborn child. Her sister-in-law, Lauri, suddenly turns up on the doorstep of the lighthouse home Bree shares with her husband, Kade, in Rock Harbor. Secretive and withdrawn, Lauri seems curiously intent on discovering what happened to a parachuter who disappeared in the North Woods along Lake Superior's icy shore.
As Bree and Samson, her search-and-rescue dog, plunge into the search, Bree wonders if Lauri may know more than she’s admitted about the parachuter. And then the clues lead them to the trail of a young woman whose family fears the worst about her disappearance.
Will the search on this snowy, silent night lead Bree and Samson to more than clues about the missing girl? And will Bree’s prayer for a baby ever be answered?"
I chose this book because I absolutely loved TideWater Inn by the same author. I "met" Bree and Kade Matthews during the course of that story. Their characters intrigued me and made me very interested in reading this (and others) in the Rock Harbor series. Silent Night is a novella and is only a little over 80 pages long with the other 60 pages being excerpts from two other books. That was a little disappointing as I was not expecting it to be that short. The story itself was a good one. There was a mystery to be solved and a background story about Bree and Kade and their family and desire to have more children. I love the character of Samson the rescue dog and he proves himself a hero again. I enjoyed the mystery and the family aspects of the story. I was surprised that not all of the loose ends of the mystery were tied up but instead seemed as though they were forgotten about. The epilogue was very sweet. I look forward to reading others by Colleen Coble.
I received a complimentary copy of Silent Night for the purpose of writing a fair and honest review. I received no other compensation.

¿Silent Night, Holy Night.¿ So goes the opening to the favorite
“Silent Night, Holy Night.” So goes the opening to the favorite Christmas carol Silent Night begins. We are discussing today the short story by Colleen Coble Silent Night. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
Bree and Kade are getting ready to celebrate Christmas with their family. Lauri Kade’s sister comes home early from college. Her excuse is illness but could there be more to her story? After this initial confrontation; Bree is called out to search with her search dog Samson for a sky diver who did not make his landing. Will she be able to find him in time?
Silent Night comes from one of Colleen’s Rock Harbor series, and is classified as a novella. I am not familiar with this series but this story had my interest from the beginning. I wondered what would happen to these characters and how would it affect the characters? I also wondered if another case mentioned in the story was part of one of the last novels in the series. I did some research but could not find the any connection.
The story is great and has an awesome mystery! Since this is a short story the mystery is quick and followed by a great Christmas celebration. Readers will be entertained and enjoy both the mystery and celebration of Christmas. By Jencey/ Writer's Corner

Bree and Kade Matthews wanted children but after her miscarriage
Bree and Kade Matthews wanted children but after her miscarriage she hadn't been able to get pregnant and it was weighing heavily on both their hearts. Although they had Davey, Bree's son from a previous marriage, they wanted one together. When Kade mentions adoption Bree agrees to consider it but deep down she knows it won't be the same. Being a search and rescue worker helps to keep her mind off of her troubles but she never gives up hope of having her own child. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Kade's sister has been a handful since their parents died and, at twenty one, he feels it's time for her to grow up and act responsibly. When a parachuter goes down in the woods near Big Piney River, Bree joins in the search. But what appears to be a simple accident turns out to be connected to a missing persons case. Kade is surprised to find out his "irresponsible" sister has been doing her own investigating on the case. Will they solve the case in time? And will Bree and Kade get the baby they have been praying for?
I must say I have fallen In love with the characters of Rock Harbor. Silent Night has a great storyline with depth and just enough suspense to keep you turning the pages at a rapid pace. It's a short read being a novella but it leaves you wanting more time with the characters of Rock Harbor. And it has not one, but THREE, animals which always enhances the story for me. I loved Bree's German shepherd / chow mix named Samson who went on search and rescue missions with her. Overall I was very pleased with this Rock Harbor novella and if you like short stories with suspense you will too. It can be read as a stand alone but I think after reading it you will want to delve deeper into the series. Colleen Coble is an author of no disappointments.

What a fun story! I really liked Bree ... she just seemed so dow
What a fun story! I really liked Bree ... she just seemed so down-to-earth and a little feisty. My kind of woman! The mystery part of the story happened pretty quickly (but the book is only 80 pages!), but it was still an intriguing plot. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I really enjoyed the secondary story as well, which revolved around the relationship between an adoptive mom, a birth mom, and the baby given up for adoption several years prior. It was just a sweet story and really made me think.
If you've read the rest of the Rock Harbor series, I think you'll enjoy this story. If you haven't read the other books in the series (like me!), Silent Night provides a nice introduction to the characters. I'm very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series ... and soon! [4 stars]
