The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

This was my second time reading The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and I loved it even more than the first time. This story is about four girls: Carmen, Bridget, Lena and Tibby. Their mothers knew each other when they were pregnant, so the girls have been friends since birth. They go to different schools and lead fairly seperate lives during the school year, so summer is usually their time together. But during their fifteenth summer everything is different. Lena is leaving for Greece with her sister to meet her granparents, Bridget is going to a rigorous soccer camp for teenage girls, Carmen is going to North Carolina to stay with her dad for the summer, and Tibby is stuck in their hometown of Bethesda, Maryland. Right before they all disperse they find a pair of jeans, a pair of pants that magically fits all of them. The four of them agree too share the pants over the course of the summer, by mailing them back and forth. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is born and they all head off for their seperate adventures. By the end of the book you feel like these grls are your friends, and you've been right there with them the whole time. The characters are all layered and realistic and the settings and circumstances come to life in Ann Brashares' story. Something that is almost as magic as the pants is that Brashares' conveys how close these four friends are, and the four of them are all together only at the beginning and the end. Not only do the pants keep them together, but they stay connected throughout the summer by sending each other letters, some of which we get to read. Parts of this book had me laughing and parts of it had me in tears. Re-reading this book makes me want to read the next three installments again too. I reccomend this book to anyone who likes stories about friendship and change. Also, since June is now underway, this book makes the perfect summer read.Show Less
