Good entry level book
"Six Sigma: The Breakthrough Management Strategy Revolutionizing the World's Top Corporations" is a great book for an introduction to the Six Sigma methodology. Mikel Harry and Richard Schroeder explain Six Sigma concepts of benchmarking, finding areas where improvements can be made, defines hidden factories, explains the roles (Champions, Master Black Belts, Black Belts and Green Belts) required to run a Six Sigma shop and how to prepare for an implementation (including example timelines). The book provides numerous examples of how different corporations implemented Six Sigma and how they benefited from it.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. It is targeted for executives and senior managers that are trying to learn about Six Sigma and how it would apply to their business. It is beneficial for other learning about their companies that are implementing Six Sigma, but are not "in the thick" of the implementation.
There is some coverage (one chapter) of applying Six Sigma to the service industry, but for a much more thorough examination of that subject check out Michael George's "Lean Six Sigma for Service".
