Hear the name Coco Chanel and you get a picture of classic glamour. This orphan revolutionized fashion and with her fragrance Chanel No. 5 created a loyal following.
Now in Sleeping With the Enemy Coco Chanel's Secret War by Hal Vaughan you get a relative not known part of this complex woman. She was a spy. Based on never before researched documents Vaughan masterfully paints a portrait of how this woman filled with lovers and admires navigated the waters of within the Nazi occupied Paris.
Her allure and relationships enabled to keep this dark secret in the shadows. Hal Vaughan a journalist and scholar does a riveting job of capturing War World II Europe. I was intrigue of how severe the occupation was and the very distinct lines that were drawn.
Even after the war, Chanel came back in full swing and reestablish her House of Chanel and her last breaths spoke out the words "Well, that's how one dies." I think she should have said that's how one lives.
Sleeping With the Enemy is a real page turner and will make you appreciate this woman who was way ahead of her time.

Interesting.....

I recommend this book. There are parts that are a bit long, but overall I enjoyed the story.

I thoroughly enjoyed it front to back. I could not put it down.

This book took me inside Coco Chanel's life. I enjoy biographies, and this one did not disappoint me. I have recommended it to my friends.
