I seriously wanted to like this book. After reading Liz Davis' Under His Spell, which is a fantastic book, I became fascinated with the black female/ native American male pairings. I felt as if Liz gave up on this book or perhaps she was not interested in it anymore but still had to finish it. Ok, let's start with the basics. This book is 560 pages(NOOK) or 72,056 words. It is considered a contemporary interracial book that has minimal grammatical errors. I felt that as the reader, I needed to know more about the characters background history. Sometimes when a character is vaguely described such as physical appearance, personality, and personal history, it is hard to relate to them. For instance, I hated Evan's character. I could not understand why he wasn't more understanding with Maya situation with Dylan. What Maya needed was someone to get her through a bad relationship not complain about it. Evan character reminded me of a way a teenager acts. He seemed unsure of himself. It was unappealing and definitely not romantic. There was constant arguing and bickering between Maya and Even, but it was about nothing and it continued during most of the book. It happened so often that I began to think they were fillers. Some parts of the book were completely random (the bit about Evans mother, and Astrology) once again, fillers. Maya seems very weak, which puzzles me so much that I will not continue with her. The storyline is very basic. Maya is a waitress, who recently broke up with her boyfriend Dylan and her car breaks down. Evan is a tow truck driver/ mechanic. Dylan is a slightly obsessive ex boyfriend. Now for the sex scenes..... They SUCK. I mean what happened? In the book Under His Spell, I felt as if I was having sex with the lead male character. It was that good. However, in this book it is a very different story. The author keeps repeating the same stuff over and over again. The same words, the same phrases. BLAH. I just began to skip over them, so disappointing. That is really all I can say. The book took me a while to finish because I became uninterested. I would recommend buying Under His Spell (which I also wrote a review on), but not this one.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
