"Snow Crash" rocks. What else can you say about a book published in 1992 featuring a heroic protagonist named Hiro Protagonist that incorporated pizza delivery franchises, ninjas, punk rock, linguistics, skateboarding, avatars, mafiosi, glass knives, and gated communities ... and managed to be prescient and coherent without being absurd? I've read thousands of books, and have never found one more engaging than this.

I had no idea what this book was about before picking it up. It was on a list of top books to read in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category and it was next up for me to read. The writing style is definitely Neal Stephenson but it seemed more disjointed than his normal book. It took me until about a quarter of the way into the book to really feel like I understand even a small portion of it. Once I did figure out what was going on it was a pretty good read. Previously I have read Cryptonomicon from this author and very much enjoyed it. I would say over all to give it a try and hang in there if you not to sure about it. It turns out pretty well.

    Not horrible...

The parts were greater than the sum.

Cool characters. Awesome world concept. But a story that broke apart in the middle and then crumbled in the end.

Still, the overall concept and first hundred fifty pages were good enough that i will most likely give Diamond Age a chance.

    Meh.

It's no Cryptonomicon. The only thing that really explains this book to me is that it was originally conceived as a graphic novel.

    The future from the past

A book that seemed both familiar and alien; I read Snow Crash about 15 years too late, but still enjoyed it. The world (and the internet) have moved past Stephenson's 1992 vision, but the parts that I find sticking closest to the surface are the universal bits--the Fedz' toilet paper pool, the blur of billboards along the interstates, the separate lives that kids keep from their parents. As our world grows ever increasingly internetworked, the central question endures: is our ability to communicate with each other keeping pace?

    Maybe It's Just Me

This was one of the 1st Sci-Fi books I have read in a long time, and I think I now remember that Sci-Fi just isn't for me. The storyline, while complicated, was understandable in its own way. The writing itself was a little disjointed by going from character to character and often had these characters doing things that were unimportant to the story. A little editing to prevent the choppiness would have helped greatly.

Good, but not all the hype

The story is unbelievably predictable and some of the topics are not as well thought out as some other reads seem to think. However, I cannot deny that this book kept me hooked and that the storyline moves very well, unfortunately, I think the author ran out of ideas because the book ends very suddently, which I found most disappointing.
