An incredible book of sacrafice and trials of war
The book is excellent in all regards. If you've seen the movie Letters from Iwo Jima the book will make you want to see it over and over again. In fact the book is worth a couple reads if you have not seen the Clint Eastwood production. The book does not provide an argument of Japan and America into Iwo Jima but presents a deep exploration into the lives of men who were sent to their deaths in no hopes of ever seeing their homeland of Japan again. Great sacrafice, incredible leadership, honor, courage and commitment - these values cross all cultures and boundaries.

Iwo Jima from a Japanese soldier's perspective
As the book Flags of our Fathers depicts the story of the flagraisers on Iwo Jima. This book tells of the Japanese perspective of the battle and were prepared to fight to the death defending the island and Japan.
