"Additionally, it explains the history, regulations, and significant changes to U.S. Social Security, as well as considerations for the future of the program."
Any book will have a difficult time presenting meaningful information because the 'considerations' are expressed in time-sensitive words. What is said in 2012 is trillions of dollars away from where we are today.
Separately the author should disclose his position with AARP more openly. It is not exactly an unbiased source for information. Brenton C Smith, (AKA Joe The Economist) feel free to yell at me via our site FixSSNow (Dot) Org.

A good guide when applying Social Security benefits
I am a Benefits Counselor at Disability Services & Legal Center in Santa Rosa. I help disabled people navigate the Social Security system in applying for their benefits and other issues they may have. I've only scanned the book so far, but intend to read it from cover to cover to make sure there aren't any errors for people trying to get their benefits. Otherwise, it's a conversation piece on my shelf.
