    Hot Read

"He tossed five condom packets on the nightstand. Either he was being overly optimistic, or she was in for the best sex of her life." When Daphne thinks this about Gerard I laughed out loud. I also knew Soft Focus was not only hot, but special.

Gerard Lynch is interviewing models for his new photography book. In Daphne Kemp, he not only finds a model, but his muse and lover. From the moment Gerard sees Daphne he knows she'll be a perfect model. From the moment Gerard and Daphne meet both can feel the tug of desire for each other. The tension Ms. LaFleur created between Gerard and Daphne is palpable. What's more interesting is neither Gerard nor Daphne wanted to be attracted to each other. They both break their hard and fast rules. But as desire simply can't be shut off and rules are made to be broken, Gerard and Daphne merge.

I liked that both Daphne and Gerard were strong, complete characters who had successful independent careers. They lived by their own rules. Neither character had to grow to be in the relationship or grew to be a stronger person because they were together. This short story gives you a beautiful meeting of two people who simply want to be together. And when they get together, the sex is wonderful. I loved it! I felt hot and bothered reading Soft Focus.
The only niggling thought I had about the story was at the end when they meet up after being apart for three days. I wanted more. But I did laugh at what he gives her at the end of the book.

If you're looking for a hot short story that will make you gush and smile, I recommend Soft Focus.

    Chapter 13

The small patrol ran a ways back and stopped behind a large rock to catch their breath. "Is anyone hurt?" Poppyfrost asked, scanning her Clanmates. Softpaw smelled blood but not much. "Blackstar swiped my eye. It is bruised but it will be okay," Ivypool meowed. "I am missing some clumps of fur from my underbelly and my shoulder is bleeding. Did Stoatpaw nick my ear?" Softpaw asked quietly. "Your ear is slightly nicked, but your shoulder wound is not deep," Poppyfrost said, sniffing Softpaw. Poppyfrost had wrenched her claw and had a gash on her back. Screeches echoed from the trees. Leafpool burst back through the undergrowth. "Bramblestar, Squirrelflight, Berrynose, and Toadstep are striking with round two right now," she meowed breathlessly. "ShadowClan has got backup," Softpaw suddenly blurted. "ThunderClan will never expect this," Softpaw blinked. "Three more cats are coming!" Ivypool looked from Poppyfrost back to Leafpool. Leafpool nodded and ran off back to warn Bramblestar. "You ready?" Meowed Ivypool to Softpaw. Softpaw nodded, angling her ears to hear what was happening. They suddenly burst from behind the rock, startling Ferretclaw, Rowanclaw, and Starlingwing. "ThunderClan attack!" Ivypool yowled for the second time. Softpaw rocketed straight at Starlingwing. The ginger tom let out a startled yelp and swiped awkwardly at Softpaw. His claw swiped and she sensed it with her whiskers. She dodged and bowled into his stomach. He let out an oof and fell backwards. Softpaw started scraping at his stomach, and blood blossomed in his ginger fur. Starlingwing screeched and pushed out his paws. Softpaw slithered to the ground. "ShadowClan retreat!" Howled Crowfrost, running in. Everyone paused. "Blackstar has lost a life!" He finished. Immediately the ShadowClan cats melted into the shadows and ran off. "Did we win?" Panted Softpaw. "Yes, we won," replied Ivypool. The tired, bloody ThunderClan patrol walked back to camp. "Was it super scary?" Dewpaw asked when they returned. Jayfeather patted cobwebs onto Softpaw's wounds. "I wasn't scared, we showed those mousebrains who's boss," mewed Softpaw. "I wonder if I will ever be in a battle?" Wondered Amberpaw. "Oh, you will," answered Jayfeather. "Sorry Softpaw, but this nick in your ear is permanent." Softpaw broke into a smile. "It is my first real battle scar!" She piped. "You're done," meowed Jayfeather. Softpaw sniffed her way back over to the fresh-kill pile. "Softpaw," she turned to face Molewhisker's voice. He sounded more...mature. Softpaw hadn't seen him since she became blind, so he probably looked like a real warrior. "Hi Molewhisker," she replied cheerfully. "Would you like to share a mouse with me?" He asked. "Sure!" Softpaw followed him over to a sunny spot and crouched next to him. The mouse tasted nutty and delicious. She absently traced her tail along his side. His pelt was not fuzzy anymore, it was sleek. And Molewhisker was the size of a healthy warrior. Strong muscles rippled beneath his pelt. "I'll see you later Softpaw," he meowed when they had finished. Softpaw heard Cherryfern pad over to her. "He totally has a crush on you," she whispered, purring.
