wondering why?

This book is not what I had expected and I am still scratching my head wondering why the parents would make the decision that they did for their daughters. Logically, yes I get it, but I can't imagine splitting up my children for their sakes.

I think of this book often when I wonder how one daughters life could have been different. We are placed in situations and I know that I wonder how things could have been different if I would done things differently.

This is a thinker kind of book (was for me anyway) afterwards, so in opinion I really enjoyed it.

I don't know what to think.....

I disliked this book, and at the same time, I really liked it. I gave it 3 stars because it did make me feel emotional and connected to the characters, however, it was much more Ruthie's story than it was Julia's.

I guess I recommend it, and I guess it was good sinc...

I guess I recommend it, and I guess it was good since I finished it in a day!

    Dislike

I kept coming back to this book everytime I browsed a book store. I don't know why after reading it. The story had so much potential but the author missed the mark. Too much time was spent getting leading up to the sisters being separated. It is Ruthie's story and Julia's story gets completely short changed. You don't really get how the sister's grew apart other than they were quite different to begin with. As adults, the girls are dull and the deeper issues of their relationship goes relatively unexplored. I can't recommend this book because there are so many great ones out there. Don't waste your time on this one!

    Totally Disappointed

This book was recommended and I don't know why!! I felt the characters were incomplete and self-pitying. Too many unresolved issues and loose ends were left untied at the end of the book. I was truly annoyed by the end of the book!! Will not be reading anything else by her!

Very disappointing. The characters had potential but they and the story went flat.

    bad choice

This book was not good. Very slow paced and uneventful. Characters were not developed well.

    Lots of Potential - Disappointed

This is a story about 2 sisters (Julia and Ruthie) who lose their parents in a tragic plane crash and are split up due to the custody decision written in their parent's will (since they are only half sisters). The book then follows the sisters on a journey of growing up and of self-discovery. I really enjoyed the author's style of writing and it was a fast read for me. I don't want to give too much away but I felt that the main character (Ruthie - this sweet young girl who cares about her loved ones and goes out of her way to comfort and support) grows up into a slightly snobby and unlikable woman. I felt the author was really pushing liberal ideals which is fine; however, she builds up all of this drama and tension allowing the reader to believe Ruthie is in a journey to figure out life and be happy. However, the reader is instead disappointed with a rushed ending and lots of unanswered questions.

I feel like the end of this could have been excellent, leaving the reader with a sense of fulfillment and a belief that a sister's relationship can never be truly broken. Instead, I was left with a feeling that I wasted several hours of my time.

However, I would like to say that the book is a thinker and would be great for a book club or reading group. Some fantastic discussion points.
