    Superb Military Romance

When I picked up this book and began to read, I felt myself being transported into the 1940's. I was able to picture vividly the clothing, hairstyles, cars and the morals of the time. The characters, Katie McNeill and Ron Miller moved through my imagination like characters in a movie. Today if a young lady wants to meet a young man all she has to do is ask him out. Not so in the 40's. The cost of Katie getting to know Ron would have an effect on her life for many, many years. The separation of war is something that affects most families now to some extent. The separation of families during WWII brought the wives of the soldiers together and they found support in each other in a long arduous time. Each chapter of this book had it's cliffhanger, some with happy endings and some not. At each point, I felt Katie and Ron's joys and sorrows. This is a book I will keep on my shelf, sharing with special friends and read again and again.

    Not Your Average Romance Novel

I bought this book to read on vacation, and thought it was going to be good romantic fluff. I was surprised to find that it's not your average romance novel. For one thing, it's written just as much from the hero's point of view as from the heroine's. The dialogue is first-rate. It's mature, intelligent and not at all your stock-in-trade romance novel banter. The drawback to the book is the author's background. According to her bio, she's spent most of her life in the newspaper business, and unfortunately her writing doesn't always make the leap from good newspaper reporting to descriptive prose. Overall, though, it's a good, engaging story especially in the last five chapters when our hero comes home from the war. Campbell does a good job of portraying his grief & depression and the other issues he must deal with such as learning to be a father to his three-year-old son. I'll give it five stars and say that's it's worth reading, because the characters, dialogue and plotting makeup for any flaws in the descriptiveness of the writing.

    Love Conquers All

'A Soldier's Love' written by L.K. Campbell, is a fast-paced, romantic war-time novel that brings to life many issues that military families are many times forced to deal with. Campbell's novel deals with many life issues...love marriage, family, friends, births, deaths, betrayal, abuse, war, infidelity and forgiveness. In the end, the reader will feel that love does conquer all.
