This story was a historical romance with a nice little murder-mystery set in historical New York in the 1880s. Cutter is a no-frills man of the streets while Callie is clearly a lady who deserves more than the hand she’s been dealt in life. Cutter’s granny and Callie’s uncle added nice dimension to the story, as did the personalities of Cutter’s cohorts. While the story itself was pretty good, two things about this book left me scratching my head. First, the author does a great job building sexual tension between Callie and Cutter, but the story strings you along without that build-up ever being satisfied. Secondly, the author has a very free-spirited style of writing which, unfortunately, lacks polish and may leave the reader distracted by all the fragmented sentences and modern phraseology. Someone to Cherish was originally published under the title The Ratcatcher.

Great story and characters
This story is about 800 pages. Great development and characters. Takes place in New York in 1884. No actual sex just some very heavy petting. Watch out for an electronic snafu between chapter 6 and 7. There is an excerpt for another book that takes up several pages, you'll need to skip from about page 245 to 273. It skips to "about the author" and the excerpt is called "powder of sin". Just skip passed and continue. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I'm missing something. I enjoyed what I read but it seemed unfin
I'm missing something. I enjoyed what I read but it seemed unfinished as did the other book I read by Kate Rothwell. Boththis book an "Seducing Miss Dunnway" ended before the romance began and left me feeling like I must have purchased an excerpt rather thana complete book. I won't purchase another book by this author unless I have an assurance that I will be able to read it to the end of the story.

I loved this book! I didn't experience a dull moment while reading it. The plot was excellent and the events were so well described that one could almost feel the same frustrations as the main characters. It is a fresh romantic story developed amidst a time where men who lacked titles were ostracized by society and women who lacked either fortune, a husband or both struggled to survive. Was this review helpful?
