If you like fiction, friendship, mystery and suspense I strongly recommend for you to read Something Wicked This Way Comes. I enjoyed this book so much. When you think something is going to happen, something else actually happens. They setting took place in strange and various places. The setting I most enjoyed was the carnival. All the spooky things going t on there were nice to read.Jim Nightshade and Will Halloway are the main characters followed by Charles Halloway, Mr. Dark, and Mr. Cooger. While you read this book you will find out about other characters that during the story they oddly disappear. Jim and Will face the most unpredictable things you have ever seen. My favorite character in the story is Jim because he is brave, older than Will, and always wants to know more in everything he sees or does. The plot is full of suspense. The author, Ray Bradbury did a great job explaining it. The most important plot took place at the carousel. The carousel is where the most important events take place and where the mysterious things happen. My favorite setting of the plot was in the library. That is where Jim and Will are hiding from Mr. Dark because Mr. Dark found out something about them. The book might get kind of weird and freaky, but you will really enjoy it. I really like this book. There is a lot of exciting things that go on in this book and I know you would not want to miss them. I hardly recommend it!Show Less

lovers of mystery.....Something Wicked This Way Comes!!!!

If you like something creepy, out of the ordinary, scary, freaks and freak shows, and complicated books, then you are going to like Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. This book is pretty interesting but really complicated at the same time!!!!!!! It takes place in Greentown, Illinois 'a smallish town', somewhere in the present around October, the time of Halloween! The author describes the setting really good that it actually makes you believe you are experiencing the same thing all of the characters are at the same time, which sometimes can be a little bit confusing¿..he also uses a lot of metaphors in the whole book!!! The book it¿s mainly about the issues Jim and Will, the main characters, have, and yes everything has to do with ¿freak shows¿ and its ¿freaks¿ they are called ¿Mr. Dark and Mr. Crooger¿ a freak show parade that comes into town and its Will¿s and Jim¿s problem resource. This book it¿s also about saving a precious friendship and the lives these two boys love the most and really care about. Even the verse in Proverbs 4:16-17 describes the plot pretty good¿..it says ¿They sleep not, except they have done mischief, and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness. And drink the wine of violence.¿ I know this is kind of confusing but if you don¿t understand this then please don¿t, please don¿t read this book because this is the kind of complicated Im talking about. Now if you do like this kind of books then I totally recommend it to you!!!!

    Something Wicked This Way Comes

The plot of Something Wicked This Way Comes is about two boys that know about a haunted carnival. The carnival kills anyone who rides any of the rides. It turns them younger and they eventually die. The two boys which are Will and Jim have to stop Mr. Dark, the evil carnival owner, from causing chaos around the town. The setting of the book seems to be a while back because in this book carnivals are very popular and there isn¿t as much technology as we have today. The three main characters of Something Wicked This Way Comes are Jim, Will, and Mr. Dark. Jim and Will get involved with Mr. Darks¿ carnival because they wanted to get on a ride. There was a man that went up first and when he did Jim and Will started to see him turn younger and younger. At first Jim and Will were too afraid to face Mr. Dark and his freak show, but after the fear went away they tried as hard as they could to stop Mr. Darks plan. I enjoyed this book because I¿m the type of person that really likes mystery books that have a lot of fiction. I don¿t really know what the message was in the book but since I had to read a book for the summer then I had to get something that I liked reading. When I first read this book I thought to myself ¿wow, it¿s just another book¿ but when I got further into the reading I couldn¿t stop. It was a really good book and I would recommend this book to people that like reading fictional stories about ghosts. I liked the book a lot but it was kind of difficult for me to comprehend. It was difficult because the characters were very different then I am so I couldn¿t really find any connections. I connected my friends to some of the characters which really helped me out with the book. In conclusion this book was really fun to read. The mood throughout the story was whimsical. It made the book a lot more enjoyable to read and I didn¿t get bored of the book. It was a really good book for me since I had to read it I chose this because I thought I might enjoy it and I did.

If you like mysterious books this is for you.

I read the book Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. It starts of freaky or weird from the first page and starts to build up as you read along. The genre of this book is a fantasy/mystery book. Personally I didn't like that the characters would come up randomly playing different roles, that confused me. There weren¿t that many characters, but it was confusing because the characters played more than one role that I thought that the character had changed, but it was the same one. The tone to this book is odd, strange, or also known as whimsical. I think that this book would interest someone who likes mystery/fantasy books, someone who likes to figure out problems, someone that has a pretty good imagination, or someone that is open minded because this book was pretty confusing, well at least to me it was. This book isn¿t what I usually read, or it¿s not the type that I like to read but I read the summary and it sounded interesting. When I was first reading this book, I thought to myself ¿this is confusing but maybe I¿ll get into the book and it won¿t be so confusing as I read it¿ but I as wrong. The book kept on getting more confusing and less interesting. It wasn¿t what I thought it would be. Most of the books that I read introduce the problem. It doesn¿t really introduce the problem but it gives you ideas/hints about what the problem is going to be about, it doesn¿t just through it in there in the beginning of the book.

    This book is O.K

Peer Book Review Will, James, and Charles are the stars in this fiction and mystery packed tall. James and Will are best friends and have been for ever. Charles Halloway (Will¿s dad) joins them in their action packed adventure and helps defeat the evil Mr. Dark. Ray Bradbury really made Something Wicked This Way Comes a very excellent fantasy book. He emphasized Will and James friendship. They acted like twin brothers and could never leave each others sight. I can relate to that because I have a twin sister that I could never let out of my sight, but now that she is gone to a boarding school in Dallas, I have gotten used to it. I like this book and would give it and 4 out of 5. If you like reading about historical facts and biographies or journals, this book is not for you. This is more of an adventure book. This text is not that difficult at the end but I was a little confused at the beginning. This is a great book and I give it a TWO THUMBS UP!

    Good...BUT definitely not Great

The Science fiction/fantasy novel of "Something Wicked This Way Comes" is a slightly odd story of Common cause, Age, And Acceptance. It is about two friends (James Nightshade & William Halloway) from Green Town, Illinois who find themselves battling the forces of darkness! And an evil carnival. In this novel you the reader will find that when a strange man selling lightning rods (Mr. Fury) comes to town so do all of the problems within the story. Such as a Dust witch,a deadly carousel, and the notorious "Mr. Dark". You will find the boys being assisted by non other than Charles Halloway (Wills father). Also you will find the boys being encountered by the evil Mr. Cooger who is in charge of the carnival, a unhappy woman named miss Foley, the boys mothers, a barber named Mr. Crosetti, Mr. Tetly who owns the United Cigar Store, and Robert who turns out to be Miss Foley's real nephew who never really appears in the book. When you enter this tale of danger and fright you to will want to be part of the battle...BUT...This story isn't what it seems. Although it may be intriguing at first it is just as confusing as well. Ray Bradbury expresses the wonder of friendship and the magic of belief in this tall tale of adventure. Truly I did not enjoy the book as much as I intended to. I found it overwhelmingly confusing and awkwardly hard to understand. As I predicted the story ended to my liking,Even though it was as I felt,"uninteresting". I recommend this story to anyone who is a lover of mystical magic, dangerous frights, and the wonder of all. I would also like to add, to anyone who intends to read this wonderfully interesting and crazily confusing peace of literature...Beware the WITCH!!! - Christopher Allen

I did not like this book

Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury is a book about two boys trying to stop an evil carnival from taking over their small town of Green town Illinois. The carnival has been traveling around the United States for two hundred years. Will and Jim, the main characters, go to the carnival thinking they will have a lot of fun, but instead they find all kinds of weird things. One strange thing they find is a woman, Miss Foley, saying strange things about how she lost her nephew in the mirror maze, but later she leaves like he never even exist. However, they find something that is a lot more interesting. They find a carousel that is out of order. Jim and Will didn't listen to the sign and still tried to get on the ride. Right when they are about to get on, two men named Mr. Dark and Mr. Cooger show up. Mr. Dark is tall and has tattoos all over his body, he is also known as the Illustrated Man. When Mr. Dark tells them to leave, they wait until he isn't looking and then hide in a tree to see what's so special about the merry-go-round. They soon find out that the carousel isn't really broken, but for some reason it goes in reverse, and plays "The Funeral March" backwards. They see Mr. Cooger, on the ride, but for some reason he looks as if he is melting every turn he goes around. It takes them a while to realize that Mr. Cooger was actually getting one year younger for each turn he went around. Soon they realize that he is her nephew and they quickly run to warn her that she is in danger. This book is an okay book that has a few twists and turns. I would only recommend it to someone that has absolutely nothing else to do.

    Great read!

Introduction- My book was about two boys that live in the country. Things get suspicious when the evil carnival comes to town. This is a great book and if you like mysterious story about ghouls and ghost, well get another book because this book is one of a kind that will rock your world!

Description and summary of main points- When the two boys go investigate, they get caught up in a bunch of creepy madness. With the help of their dad, they all take down the evil man that runs the carnival.

Evaluation- I thought this was a interesting, mysterious thriller. Ray Bradbury is a great author, but uses way to many details and metaphors. He knows how to keep the reader interested in finding out what's going to happen next.

Conclusion- I think that this book is a good read. It is filled with creepy, mysterious parts that will get your heart pumping. There may be times that you will be frightened. So if you like scary book I would by this book.

Your final review- I think that if you are a teen that likes to read mysterious, thrilling book, then you should go right now to the book store and get your own copy so you can get the excitement that Ray Bradbury put into this book.

    A great find!

Something Wicked This Way Comes is a journey filled with morals and adventure. Each page will have you in complete wonder for what the next will hold. This was a great book, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone below eighth grade due to its complexity and vocabulary.

Jim Nightshade and Will Halloway's lives are turned from ordinary to extraordinary when Cooger and Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show comes to the small Green Town. As they watch the train pull in during the night, they both feel the dark magic hiding behind all of the smoke and mirrors. The boys and Will's father, Charles, must work together to unveil the carnival for what it truly is-before it's too late!

Ray Bradbury writes with a style that I've read nothing like before. Each paragraph is filled with poetry and metaphors that really make the story come alive. You really get a good taste for the personalities of the three main characters, Jim, Will, and Charles. Along with the characters themselves, you watch the relationship between the characters really change and strengthen. Although the first few chapters moved very slowly, one you get into this book, you won't want to put it down.

I really enjoyed reading this book; it was a bit hard to comprehend, but very worth it. All of the characters are well developed. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good fiction book with lots of suspense.

    Excellent Book!

    Book Review Outline
Book title and author: Something Wicked This Way Comes, by Ray Bradbury
    Title of review: Excellent Book
Number of stars (1 to 5):

    Introduction
Most people who read horror stories constantly hear the folk lore about old carnivals and clowns. How they are usually haunted and creepy have two evil ringleaders that are either circus freaks or clowns. To illustrate that point perfectly, Ray Bradbury has conjured one of his best stories: Something Wicked This Way Comes. This excellent reader's choice book, though slow moving, has a very well played out plot.
Description and summary of main points
This plot, taking place by my guess in the late 80s or early 90s is set in an open field where the storm that never happens would've happened and where Cooger and Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show rolls in past midnight upon the rails of a freight. This carnival, as Jim Nightshade and William Halloway (the main characters), and Charles Halloway (Will's father) soon discover is controlled by some unknown omnipotent sinister force lurking just beneath the flesh of this circus madhouse. As Jim and Will take their first tentative step onto the carnival grounds, they soon begin to feel some dark and foreboding sensation (as I know you will) when they set foot beyond the Midway. As they pass by the ghostly hall of mirrors and haunted carousel they meet their first to circus freaks and evil entities in the carnival: Mr. Cooger and Mr. Dark (the Illustrated Man). Cooger and Dark come to mystify while stealing the very souls and life forces that they use to crush and morph into the own band of marauders. When Jim and Will realize this horror, they must run to save themselves and their own families from the ghastly Illustrated man and the impending doom.
    Evaluation
In this phenomenal masterpiece, Ray Bradbury has accomplished one of his best works as I've previously said. Though however great this book is, I would not recommend it to anyone beneath the eighth grade due to the difficulty of the read. Though, for those of you who commonly read in this category and are up to this challenge, this is a book you must read. I, and so many others especially in my family, have enjoyed this read. If you feel the same way we do, you'll love it too.
    Conclusion
Overall, the book has mostly good characteristics (except for the bad one I mentioned) including the character description, dialogue, plot, setting description, and so many others. If you are reading this now and looking for suggestions, that probably means you are ready to read.
    Your final review
Once again, please know that you are ready to read at this level before buying it and read all the reviews you can to help your benefit; and as a line from Shakespeare states..

    ok if you like bradbury...

I read Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury because I needed to find a book for my highschool english class.

This book has a very interesting plot with alot of twists and turns, but it was by far not my favorite book in the world. The only reason I feel this way is because I don't like Bradbury's writing stile; I find it difficult and bizzar.

The story is about two thirteen-year-old boys who were born just minutes apart, one on October 30th, the other on Octber 31st. When an evil carnival comes to town the boys get caught up in the mysteries.

I cannot compare this book to another fairly because I have never read another book like it.

Bradbury yet again uses this book to show the difference between youth and age.. it was alright.

Something Wicked This Way Comes Book Review

    Book review
    Something Wicked This Way Comes
Ray Bradbury is an amazing author and his book Something Wicked This Way Comes is one of his most impressive books. The story is about a carnival that comes to Green Town, Illinois. Two boys whom live there, Jim Nightshade and William Halloway have a bad feeling about the carnival and its owners, Mr. Dark and Mr. Cooger, however they can't prove it to anyone and no one is listening to them. They eventually tell Will's dad, a janitor at the local library, and he believes them. The three of them fearing that if they don't do something soon the carnival will take over Green Town and its inhabitants, must fight the carnival and its owners. Ray Bradbury does an amazing job of keeping the suspense in this book and making you want to read more. On the other hand the book can get confusing at parts and is sometimes difficult to read. I liked the book for its suspense and for the fact that it makes people look inside themselves to discover if they could in essence be like Mr. Dark and Mr. Cooger. I believe the message to take from this book is that life is full of obstacles and it's just a matter of overcoming them. I also believe that the author is trying to tell us that there is a way to overcome any challenge and that you can never give up or you won't succeed. I will take away from this book the message that just because you don't think you can do something doesn't mean you can't and it is important to keep on going. "By the pricking of my thumbs, Something wicked this way comes." I believe ray Bradbury did an amazing job writing this book and I encourage all people to read it.

    Something Wicked

Ray Bradbury's book, Something Wicked This Way Comes, is one of the most mysterious and suspenseful, yet confusing book I have ever read. Although, it takes many unexpected twists and turns.
It is about two boys, Jim Nightshade and William Halloway, from the town of Green Town, Illinois. They live right next door to one another, and Will was born a minute before midnight, while Jim was born one minute after midnight on Halloween day. In one day of October, a carnival came to their town. The carnival is an ordinary fun park with many attractions such as the merry-go-round, a mirror maze, and many side show tents. Soon people they knew started vanishing just days after the arrival of the carnival. Along with the mysterious vanishings, some people that go on the attractions start seeing things as they. Jim and Will start noticing something weird going on. So, just as every teenager would do, they had to figure out what was going on. They discover more than what they bargained for. The carnival freaks, as they are called, find out about the deeds of the teenage investigators, and they too know that they have been discovered. The boys must now find their ways out of the mess they have gotten themselves into. With the carnival people looking at every corner of the town, they must use the intelligence of Will's father to help with their problem. But when the boys are captured, Will's dad is to get them back with his intelligence. You just have to pick this book up and read it.
Something Wicked This Way Comes was a very interesting book for me and was written well. In my opinion, it was a very confusing book filled with many big words for any person that wants a challenging read.

    Good Frightening Fun

Perhaps the best book of its kind ever written. It is just plain spooky without the violence like you see in so many horor book today (such as Stephen King e.g)

    ...

After reading Ray Bradbury's other novel Farehenheit 451 I heard that this book was good as well. I loved Fahrenheit 451 but was very surprised that this book was definitely no where near as good as Farenheit 451. I was so shocked that this book was to be honest terrible compared to the wonderful writing of Fahrenheit 451.

Visit Cooger & Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show at your own risk

When Cooger & Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show comes to town, Will Halloway and Jim Nightshade are drawn into a battle for their souls. Ray Bradbury's writing style sprinkled with half mad similes and metaphors turns a carnival into a place that breathes out wickedness and despair. There are a couple rambling philosophical sections that detract from the pace of the book, but this is one creepy page-turner!
