This is great book club reading!

As others have said, the authors' essays probe some serious issues that can help or hinder relationships. But I find a lack of critique, insofar as some of the authors don't necessarily probe their own perspectives as much as provide examples of the types of thinking that people bring to relationships. That critique can arguably be raised in the context of a book circle, as members probe the texts and consider their own experiences.

Sometimes Rhythm, Sometimes Blues: Young African Americans on Love, Relationships, Sex, and the Search for Mr. Right

This book is full of wonderful stories that talk about the ins and outs of real life relationships between black men and women. Never before have I read a book where black people are so candid and open about their relationships. This is a must-read for anyone interested in relationsips or finding a lifelong partner...

    Very enlightening

I found this book to be very helpful. I pretty much have known you don't have to be a genius to know how to make a relationship work, but it was good to read these stories of various black women and their experiences with love and relationships. I think if we as black men take the time to listen to our women, everything would be much better. Hopefully, sisters won't give up on all black men, because all of us are not knuckleheads even though it may seem like it. I recommend this to anyone who has an open mind and is willing to pay attention. I'll be looking out for anything else Ms. Smith puts out.

An interesting perspective on our relationships

I thought this was an excellent book. I found it very refreshing to hear sistas give us the truth about their relationships, even when the truth wasn't always flattering. I think anybody who is out there looking for 'Mr/Mrs Right' should read this, because I think it will make you think about what is truly important and what it is you value because they aren't always the same.
