Great book to understand China's past
An easy to read book by Liang Heng and his American wife judith Sharpio. Explains the hardship Liang went through during the Cultral Revolution in China under the rule of Mao. This novel is packed with full of tragical events and life of Liang's family. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I felt the same frustration even though I wasn't living through the Cultural Revolution
I read this book as required reading for a non-western history course, and our Prof. used this to try to give perspective to the Chinese Revolution under Chairman Mao. Liang Heng, in living through this period, is able to give insightful and detailed glimpses of the confusion and frustration surrounding his life as a 'revolutionary.' This should be required reading for anybody studying China, communism, etc. As a graduate student in social studies education, I would love to use exerpts of this book to help my own students understand how Mao Zedong remained a powerful leader. A WONDERFUL read. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
