I loved this story very much. It had a little bit of everything. From romance to paranormal it fit perfectly. Jacob already with a father due to an accident is now missing his mom. He is forced to live with his uncle that he grew up not knowing this side of the family existed. Living in a town where everyone cringes at "change". Jacob struggles to find his place in this world he feels like he doesn't belong. Having troubles with family and school he meets Malini. She also knows how it feels to be the outcast. After some strange occurances, Jacob learns about himself with the help of Dr. Silva. She tells him she can help find his mom. This action alone motivated him to come to a realization that he is special and that he does belong.

    *COINTAINS SPOILERS*

I'm pretty confused by the overall rating and other reviews of this book. I really didn't like the plot. It started out pretty good, but then things just seemed to get random. Jacob's personality eventually started to annoy me. I've read plenty of good books with religious themes, but I couldn't stand them in here. It was annoying that Jacob was so against religion even though we found out he was doing "God's work." I just couldn't stand it.

"He's survived by following two very important rules: don't feel anything and don't expect anything from anyone." Well, if that were true, why was he excited that he made a new friend? That didn't make sense to me.

"Jacob crossed his arms over his stomach. He'd been accepting money from his uncle for lunch, his cell phone, movies, and of course his new cold weather clothes. Jacob hated taking the man's money but it couldn't be avoided." Um, yes it could of. He could of just sucked it up and kept helping his uncle work at the shop for money instead of coming up with reasons as to why he couldn't. He also didn't have to go to movies. If he hated accepting his money that much, he would of only accepted his money for things he needed.

"You're the only one who understands, Jake. I don't know what I would do without you." You've known him how long? You JUST started officially dating and JUST started realizing you had feelings for each other. This was just so cheesy. I don't even like Malini and Jacob as a couple. They just seemed too much of friends to be together. The romance in this book felt so forced.

"Malini, if I could figure a way to get us out of here... would you come with me?" "That's it then? That's what you're been hiding. You're thinking of running away." Yeah, typical teenagers. If the Romeo and Juliet theme hasn't gotten old for you, then the author just butchered it, anyway. I officially gave up on this book after that.

This book just couldn't hold my interest.
