Southern Fried Sushi by Jennifer Rogers Spinola
5 STARS
Good entertaining and uplifting story. Will certainly read follow book.
Shiloh Jacobs at first did not think much about her but I started to care and even cried in the book. Shiloh is working in Japan at a newspaper, has won rewards.spends way too much and takes short cut at work.
Her mom is back in the states dies. Shiloh goes for funeral and her life falls apart. One thing after another happens to her and she is stuck in Virgina.
She meets friends of her moms that are church goers and they keep giving her a hand and sharing what helps them get threw the trials.
Shiloh learns about her mom how she has changed for the better. Learns a lot of lifes lessons. It does have scriptures and examples of how we grow but it flows together without being too preachy. It makes for a charming story that I want more of.
The characters are a wide range that are well rounded. Some of the characters you can really see them and feel for them.
Shiloh grows a lot and takes responsibilty for her past actions. She gets mad and acts out but is not afraid to apoligize after.
Its a good book I highly recommend it. I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley.

    Way too preachy

I was very much enjoying this book. I liked the, the easy writing, the plot, and even Shiloh's yearning to find faith. And then boom, the book became preaching to the point i began feeling uncomfortable. The book had a ton of potential, but couldnt carry through

I like most Christian books, but this is one that crams religion down your throat with a bull dozer.

The first review about this book is by a paid, professional reviewer. I have never read so many grammer errors made by a professional writter before. I would be too embarrassed to sign my name to a review like hers. Thank goodness, I don' t have to. I usuall enjoy Christian fiction, if the author does not go over board on preachiness. This book went way beyond overboard, the preachiness made this book sink like the Titanic. No joke, it was that abundant and heavy handed. This book started out with a unique plot and wonderful, likable characters. The reader soon feels as if they friends with the characters and then the gospel starts to overwhelm the plot. What a shame, this book had so much promise. No violence, no sex, no cursing, great plot and characters, nicely edited, but then it is over taken by TOO MUCH religion. I could have skipped this one.

    ????

I have had a very hard time getting into this book. I have tried 3 times to read it. The food references sometimes make the book more confusing than it needs to be. I know there is a good story line in there somewhere, it is just a little hard to find. I will eventually end up finishing the book, it is just taking a lot longer than I thought it would.

    Different but good.

when i first strted this book I didn't understand what was going on but as the story progressed I enjoyed the story and the challenges she was living. This was not the typical romance where everyone lives happy ever after but they definitelty overcome their trials.

    Too much Bible pushing

I enjoyed the characters in this story, but the constant pushing of religion turned me off.

    Couldn't finish it

This writer has talent but I could not finish this book. It starts out with subtle religious references that fit within the story line, but by mid-way through it becomes 4-5 pages of sermon and one page back to the story. I found it very distracting and was unable to finish.
