This is a very good book to start with - the grammar is easily explained and it has a very large vocabulary build-up. -- What makes this book stand out is that it brings up grammar, vocabulary and context-used-words that do not come up in most other beginner's books. You learn the basics + alot of extra treats. -- In other words this book is particularly strong in application - how spanish is actually used and communicated as opposed to 'textbook-spanish'. -- The weakpoints of this book are that there are no reading texts or dialogs and not enough vocabulary exercises. Usually you only get lines to translate, and you have to memorize large vocabulary listings - which can be a very boring way to learn. -- But overall this is an excellent and user-friendly book to use.
