A practical guide to speaking like the boss

As a television news anchor for 20 years, author Suzanne Bates understands the importance of communication. She takes a practical approach to this well-worn field, using examples from her own experience and stories about famous people. Some of her suggestions have appeared elsewhere, so the subhead saying that she is revealing top executives 'secrets' may be somewhat of a stretch, but she succeeds in boiling down the information to several series of rules. Then she provides many numbered lists to help you remember the guidelines. We recommend this book as a good place to start if you are nervous about public speaking or new at making speeches, chairing meetings or standing up in front of a crowd.

    Valuable information for any professional

'Speak like a CEO' is a great guide for anyone in business who wants to learn how to really make it to the top. The author makes a valid argument as to why becoming more confident at speaking, presenting, and communicating in general is so important in the business world. I frequently make presentations to different audiences, whether they be my own employees or potential clients. I had been struggling with my confidence and with my style. Some suggested that I was too 'bland' (for lack of a better word), but I didn't know how to make my presentations more interesting without losing content. 'Speak' has many different techniques on how to keep your audience interested. I used some of them at my next meeting and recieved great feedback from my audience. The book also has many evaluation sheets to help you determine how you are in different areas of communicating.
