Achieving Prosperity Beyond Materialism
New age and metaphysical bookstores are filled with books on the Law of Attraction. With the success of The Secret and the popularity of writers like Ester and Jerry Hicks, positive thought and expectation are becoming mainstream ideas as people demonstrate the ability create their own life experience and manifest their desires. Unfortunately, many current teachings focus on the materialistic aspects of attraction. New cars, a fashionable wardrobe, and an excess of money seem to be the objectives of modern teachings on the Law of Attraction.
In Spiritual Economics, Eric Butterworth presents similar processes whereby you manifest your life experience. However, he suggests a spiritual approach, focusing on the evolution of your soul, performing acts of love and giving, and keeping always present the thought that you are an individualized expression of Divine Substance, an unending flow of creative ideas through which you can craft your life. Material things and financial abundance are discussed, but as a natural byproduct of having lived a creative life.
Humans are meant to live in abundance and prosperity, per Butterworth. However, his definition of prosperity includes not only money and material things but also love, satisfaction, giving, and the constant acknowledgement and acceptance that we are spiritual beings, extensions of God, capable of tapping into the Divine flow of the Universe at any time. In fact, Butterworth explains that anyone who is not living in true prosperity has gone against the natural flow of the Universe.
We live in a world of never-ending substance, Divine substance, and there is more than enough to go around for everyone. To access your own spiritual and financial fortune, you must first keep your attitude positive. You must understand what you want and serve your soul's purpose of evolution in this lifetime. Next, you must be able to visualize what you want and believe that you are endowed with the same creative power as Christ to manifest your experience. Butterworth often quotes Christ in evidence of the above. Christ often said to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven within you. Then, he taught, you too would be able to perform similar and even greater feats than he did.
Butterworth explains that prosperity is a consciousness that needs to be developed. Giving and tithing are elemental to that consciousness. However, one should not give because it is required or give to receive in return. Also, too often, society's consciousness toward the economy is influenced by the media, the stock market, or financial analysts. By developing a consciousness whereby you believe in a never-ending supply of Divine Substance, you can transcend even the worst economic conditions and experience your prosperity. Butterworth provides inspirational advice for dealing with job loss and financial disparity.
Spiritual Economics is superior to many modern metaphysical teachings on the Law of Attraction, as its definition of prosperity transcends materialism. By focusing on spiritual evolution, you can achieve the fulfillment of true happiness and all of the material abundance that naturally follows.
