    Offbeat Bond But Great!!

    James Bond doesn't even appear till halfway thru this potboiler style book, but it's still a great read. Fleming was flexing his muscles a little here, getting out of the casinos and the glitzy Euro settings...it works...

    NOT THE MOVIE, BETTER!

    IF YOUR LOOKING FOR THE STORY TOLD IN THE MOVIE DON'T GO HERE, BUT IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A STORY ABOUT BOND NOT YET MASSACRED, LOOK HERE.WHEN THEY MADE THE MOVIES IAN FLEMMING ORDERED THAT THEY NOT MAKE A MOVIE OF THIS ONE,SO THEY ONLY TOOK THE TITLE. THE STORY IS TOLD THROUGH THE EYES OF A COLLEGE GIRL WHO MEETS BOND AT A MOTEL WHERE SHE GOT A JOB TO RAISE MONEY FOR HER CROSS COUNTRY TRIP. THE ONLY REASON I DIDN'T GIVE IT 5 STARS IS BECAUSE THE FIRST HALF OF THE STORY IS ABOUT HER BORING SOAP OPERA LOVE LIFE IN ENGLAND, WHICH CONTAINS NOTHING ABOUT BOND. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE COVER, THERE IS NOTHING TOO SEXUAL IN THE BOOK AND IT DESERVES A PG TO PG-13 RATING. I DID NOT MEAN TO OFFEND OR WARD OFF THE MOVIE BUFFS EITHER. YOU'LL FIND THE INSPIRATIONS FOR THE ASSASINS JAWS AND SANDOR HERE. I'D ALSO RECOMEND FOR YOUR EYES ONLY WHICH IS A COLLECTION OF STORIES CONTAINING THREE UN-HOLLYWOODIZED STORIES. I HEAR THERE IS ANOTHER COLLECTION OF 007 SHORT STORIES ENTITILED THRILLING CITIES, BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS IN PRINT ANYMORE.

    Great for Teenagers

    I am not sure if this book would be interesting to an educated adult. However, since my high school son was supposed to read it for a school assignment, I read it first because I know what a sexist pig James Bond really is. And, yes, he (and his creator, Ian Flemming) is a sexist pig. However, if you go in to the book knowing that---or if you make that one of the discussion topics after you read the book--- you can actually read the book, enjoy the better parts of the plot, and then come up with some really great examples of how not to treat women. So, for a women's studies class, a religion class, an ethics class, a sociology class, a deviant behavior class (the list could go on and on)this is actually a wonderful book. That is why I gave it such a high rating. If you were to read it and not discuss the treatment of women in it, that would, I believe, reflect very badly on your intellect.
