    Just plain bad

This is quite possibly the worst st book I have ever read. The author seems to have borrowed as many chatacters as possible, including ones that make no sense (Barclay is in the DQ....). Yet, they are all reduced to cardboard. Even Sela makes a surprise visit. Then, half the charactera develop odd british accents, or charicatures of them ... wotcher, we are cooking with gas, give thrm the malky! Poorly written, poorly editted, judt bad.

While it was nice to read a Geordi-centric story for a change this novel was all over the place. Started off interesting enough, then disintegrated into a mess which is odd because it is well written. I don't understand why it was chosen to end an important character, or why it was published at all. Really, is Leah Brahms the only woman in the universe for Geordi? I advise to skip it.

    good premise - badly executed

The first 150 pages were interesting, then became like screenplay: 1o sentences for 1 set of characters; switch to another set for 18 sentences, switch to still another for 6 sentences, etc. I was able to skim from p160 to 300 in about 15 minutes and didn't lose a thing. Lack of editing (or GOOD editing) hurt. Also, author threw in everything but the kitchen sink - maybe I missed it in my skimming;) And why do almost all Star Trek writers feel as if they have to have a mention or nod to every series &/or movie? SF reading group i belong to (we do mostly Trek and classic SF) read this and all agreed. If the author wants to write a screenplay, write a screenplay. if he wants to write a book , cut duplicate explantions to different sets of characters, and get a good editor. This book was about 100 pages too long. Being paid by the word?

the author wants to write a screenplay, write a screenplay. I he wants to write a book, get a good editor., cut down excess and duplication of scenes.
