Shark Jumper? - or victim of its' own fame?

This was a serious time of anticipation for me. The USS Titan series is one I have really fell in love with. I like the biodiversity of the crew and the sense of a 'real' up and down relationship between Troi and Riker. Unfortunately, it kinda felt like a jumping of the shark when they killed off one of the bridge crew. It came across as a really unnecessary plot mechanism that should not have been used so soon. Yes, I understand that lives are lost on a routine basis in service, but I found this to be too much too soon for the benefit of a book that started beautifully but ended on a whimper. 'Sorry Geoffrey :' ' I remain a huge fan of this series, and I guess the amazing novels preceding this one may have simply set a standard of writing that was hard to maintain. I would still buy anything by this author, and anything in the Titan series.

    Sword Of Damocles

I enjoyed 'Sword of Damocles' because the plot remained consistant to one of the more popular themes that Braga & Berman established from the television show and movies:

Time travel and time paradoxes.

I liked the little nods to most of the better episodes in the trek universe mainly that the writer acknowledged that Janeway was indeed, one of the most disciplined captains in starfleet
---While stranded in the delta quadrant, she never broke the prime directive. :)

By the way, that was a cruel trick to play on poor Najem Jaza.
