You must not be a true star wars fan if you are telling people that Quigon Jinn forced Obi-wan Kenobi to train Anakin Skywalker if you have seen the first movie or reed the first book its called The Phantum Menace in case you didn't Quigon was going to train Anakin himself but died shortly after being stabed by Darth Maul after Obi-wan kill Darth Maul he rushed to Quigons side and promised his Master on the spot that he would train Anakin then after that Quigon dies and Obi-wan takes Anakin as his padawan learner. So maybe you should watch the movie and reed the first book again if you already have. This book by-the-way is awesome two thumbs up!

It's Alright....

It wasn't the best book, but it did enough to keep my interest throughout....

    more from this reviewer

    Why?

While Rogue Planet embodies a bright idea: Show us Kenobi and Skywalker early in their relationship, during Anakin's troubled early adolescence, against the backdrop of an exciting mission, the pacing and somewhat pedantic style get in the way. The book tells us about the characters' emotional responses to various stimuli without actually showing us. The author's perspective hovers somewhere between third person limited and third person omniscient, too distant to allow us to see through any particular set of eyes--or into any particular mind or heart--without actually providing a bird's eye view of any scene. This book will be most appealing to readers who want more "trivia" or background information on the political situation in the Old Republic preceding the Clone Wars and the relationship between Obi-Wan and his misfit apprentice in particular. Readers hoping for insight into this or any other developing relationship will be disappointed.

    could have been better

this book wasnt what i was expecting - hardly any action until the end-which is unusal for a starwars novel- took too long to establish a plot. however, some parts were okay.

    Worst Ever!!!!!!!!!

Star wars books are supposed to be exciting. I had just read Jedi Quest : Path to truth so I decided to try Rogue Planet. But it is a extremely boring book. There is way too much talking. Not enough Star Wars!!! I've read many other star wars books and this is the worst!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!

    HUH?

I am disappointed with this book. I was confused from page 1. The chapters bounce back and forth far too much for continuity to work well. There are no explanations to characters and what is going on. I have heard the general premise for Star Wars II, and this book seems to have nothing to do with that story line. The book version of Phantom Menace was better, and followed the general story line of the movie. Maybe Im mistaken, and this book isnt supposed to illustrate the next movie. But even if it isnt supposed to do that, it's too confusing to totally enjoy.

Save your money, you can wait for the paperback!

There isn't a whole lot happening in this novel. The plot is weak and simple. Far too much time was spent on the building of the ship, but if that was shortened, there wouldn't have been much at all, would there? There is a whole lot of blank paper in this novel as it is. There are few good bits of Jedi wisdom here and there. We find out that Anakin is fearful and angry, but we knew that didn't we? I find Bear's extrapolation on Mace Windu out of character. I find his attempts at dropping little bits and pieces of the galaxy far, far away awakward, forced and out of place. Blue as Tatooine milk? (yes, I do know what he means, but seems like a silly analogy to me). Ships from Kessel? There were other examples that escape me at present. The planetary propulsion theory has been used previously in the Bantam stories. The one thing I did find cool was the reference to the Yuuzhan Vong that ties the whole thing into NJO books that are years in the future. If this book had come out as a Jedi Apprentice type book, I woundn't be as disappointed, but as a main line adult, hard back for goodness sakes, we'll they need to be doing a lot better.
