A sinister and well written beginning to a great series
This is the first installment of the Legacy of the Force series. It is the beginning of a new dark time for the characters in the Star Wars galaxy. It is an emotional tale that leaves the reader wanting more.

Shocking
I was shocked to find out who would be the next person to walk down the dark path. Good way to start the series.

A reviewer
After the ambitious yet ultimately disappointing New Jedi Order series, and the unnecessary and ridiculous Dark Nest trilogy, we finally get the kind of story that Star Wars is really made for. This novel has everything you could ask for: a looming conflict, political intrigue, intense action, questions of morality, and choices around which the fate of the galaxy are hinged. Even more impressive, and one of the reasons this book is so good, is the fact that the story is woven using elements that already existed in Star Wars lore. No new superweapons or technologies or alien threats here. This novel sits firmly among my favorite Star Wars novels.

This is a best selling author???
Terrible. The author interrupts an important conversation to write an entire page on the view of a bridge. The author repeats himself over and over. ( I couldn't bring my self to say he repeated himself repeatedly)
I found the dialog on par with a 12 year old child. Really, a 60 year old Jedi is going to say "All of a sudden, an entire GA fleet will materialize within Corellian space." ?
I do not think so.0 out of 7 people found this review helpful.

Highly recommend
This book is great, I'm currently in chapter 11 and can't put it down. There are around 387 pages and each chapter is about 10 pages. The book title makes it you seem very on edge wondering what does "betrayal mean and when does it happen." with my final thoughts i would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves star wars and or want a great book to read before bed.

A tragic tale...
I'm a fan of the original trilolgy and have read only a handful of the Star Wars books. A while back I read 'Traitor' which featured Jacen Solo and I became somewhat enamored with him. I have to say that much of the draw for me personally to this series is specifically to follow his descent to the dark side and considering everything thats at stake I feel a constant pang with each of his dark deeds. Its a tragic read not only for Jacen but also to see what will happen to the Solo's and the Skywalkers. Both families may never be the same again...

Promising for this new series
While 'Betrayal' is not my favorite Star Wars novel, it is indeed good enough for any fan to read. However, if someone who is not familiar enough with the 'Expanded Universe' of Star Wars, then they may want to begin with a novel more closely tied to the original trilogy. This novel is hardly tied to that era, as it is set 40 years after 'Return of the Jedi.' The New Republic has suffered great losses from the Vuuzhang Vong war, and is trying to recover. However, during this pivotal recovery time, Jacen Solo has begun to make choices that alternate from the instructed path of a Jedi. While the ending surprised me, it didn't surprise me as much as it could have if the title of the book hadn't been 'Betrayal.' However, with that said, the twist at the end of the novel is indeed semi-tragic and sets the Star Wars universe, far as it may be from the films at this point, on a new course. While this book was admittedly tough for me to get through in its first two-thirds, a final mission that Jacen, Han and Leia's son, his apprentice Ben Skywalker, son of Luke and Mara Jade, and a Jedi Knight named Nelani take are enough to keep me interested and act as a springboard to read the sequels of this series.
