Compelling! Makes the "Dream Team" sports stories pale in comparison to the real life (and death) obsticles this over-achieving, underdog nation surmounted!
Well documented history of the courage, determination, panache and "chutzpuh" this over persecuted people possess. In my natural idioms "balls" is the word that comes to mind. Tell them they can't, they will. Tell them don't, they do. In no other nation is success so revered and its persuit so commonly shared that it has become a form of true patriotism! Many history books speak to the events that created Israel, but none so fully explain the societal id that makes it so successful.

A great insight into Israeli society
A refreshing look at Israeli Chutzpa and Balagan (chaos) and why they are actually a good thing. Israeli's are often taken for being rude (chutzpa) and disorganized (balagan) but the authors show us why these characteristics, as well as other factors (in particular the military), have allowed Israel to produce a world class high tech industry and grow its economy. The book doesn't answer why Israelis are the way they are - just how the way they are has shaped the growth of their country. I liked Start Up Nation; it is interesting and well worth the read.
