    It's different for older kids

It's alot different when the step children are older. I felt this book described exactly what I have been feeling. My stepkids were 9 and 7 when we married I have spent years feeling isolated and separated from my Husband when dealing with his children. This book helped me to know that I am not alone. It's alot easier to bond with a 2 year old.

If you are naive as some of these people interviewed in this book it is you that needs a reality check. It would have been nice to include interviews from stepmothers whom have had relationship with their step children since they were 2. I've been with my husband now for 3 years and my stepson is 5. He is well adjusted, happy to stay with us, and we enjoy our time together. By all means we are not the poster family, but this book was absolutely no help in my situation. Think twice before buying!

    more from this reviewer

More for the custodial stepmom please?

I found this book helpful for new stepmoms or women venturing into stepmotherhood for the firs time. I've been a custodial stepmom for almost 9 years. My stepdaughters were 3 and 20 months when my husband and I married. I feel this book didn't nearly touch the issues that a custodial stepmom comes across, especially with younger children. Not much was covered under the chapter for custodial stepmoms except for changing custody over to the father. More fathers are leaving a first marriage with custody of their children whether they be boys or girls. I would like to see more books covering this topic.
