Very interesting historical mystery! Takes place after the Civil War and during the building of the Suez Canal. The characters are well developed and interesting. I liked the idea of a woman undertaker which would have been very unusual at that time. Lots of interesting little tidbits, like how she embalmed a body at the deceased's home, the invention of dynamite by Alfred Nobel, that embalming bodies started after the Civil War in the US but people in the UK still frowned on the practice, and Egyptology all seamlessly woven in the story. If you like historical fiction then you will love this series.

Interesting reading and I learned a lot about the workings of a mortician. Interesting in a kind of creepy way.

In Stolen Remains (the next installment in her "A Lady of Ashes Mystery), Christine Trent returns Violet Harper to England. Where we find Violet after a long travel from Colorado to Brighton to attend her ill mother but a summons from the Queen is something she can't refuse! How the Queen found she was in England is a mystery, Violet hopes her required presence is not to revisit the funeral for the Prince she orchestrated 8 years ago! What she finds is a new Client to administer to and then some!!!
