This prequel introduces the main character of The Girl In the Steel Corset, Finley Jane. It's starts with her being fired for sticking up for a little boy, which right away tells me what kind of person she is. This is the second time she's been fired in a short time. She thinks something must be wrong with her and that she's evil because of her sometimes dark thoughts, super strength and hearing.

She goes home to her mother and stepfather, Silas even though she'd rather not be a burden to them. Before she even starts to look for a job, Lady Morton shows up and offers her one to be her daughter's companion. Why Lady Morton wants her specifically despite her reputation makes her suspicions, but she can't past up the chance. Finley and Phoebe becomes friends and starts to worry about the true intentions of her fiance, the much older Lord Vincent.

This is my first foray into Steampunk and I had no idea what to expect. I really enjoyed the mixture of a historical world with it's futuristic inventions. It was an interesting contrast. One of the reason I think I've stayed away from the genre is that I thought it wouldn't be easy to understand the world it's set in. Which wasn't the case.

A lot happen in this prequel. It's a great introduction to the series. I really like Finley and can't wait to find out the mystery behind her.

    Short and sweet but......

This was a good book. I just wish they would have explained a little bit why she has the powers she has. Im guessing they are saving that for the other books, still it would have been nice to have a tiny glimpse into it. The plot was ok, a bit predictable, but it was ok. I do look forward to reading the other books, hopefully they are alot deeper with the charactors than this. I know its hard to cram all that into 84 pages but i think the writer could have done better than that.

    Fine new series

I love steampunk and picked this up even though it looked YA. It's not. I found Finley an engaging character and have bought the next book and enjoyed it. This one is not as racy as some, but good "world" and story.

    Has potential...

A little too much good vs evil. I like a little "gray area" when it comes to defining characters. The main characters so called dark trait could be consider good. However, this was my first introduction to steampunk and I rather enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading the series.

Fascinating story, if a bit simple

An interesting story line, very compelling. I enjoyed it, and I'm not really into the frankensteinian macabre as a genre. The writing could have been flushed out more, it was a bit dry at times, it picked up toward the end. And it shows good potential for the series. I liked it.

    Okay read

I felt like I was jumping into the middle of a story without being fully aware of the parameters, however it was a interesting enough book to begin the series with. Hopefully the second one will flesh out the details better.
