The Strawberry Letter: As Juicy As the Berry Itself!

Pain. Progress. Purpose. Peace. These are just a few descriptions of the many processes that Shirley Strawberry, co-host of the nationally syndicated, Steve Harvey Morning Show, endures, reaches and reveals in her new book to be released April 5, 2011. In it, Shirley's authenticity make readers feel like Shirley's a life-long friend.

Sharing is caring, and Shirley Strawberry is brilliant in her friend-to-friend conversation approach as she shares details about her life. Like the "Strawberry Letter" segment of the show, Shirley uncovers secrets about herself that-the always poised and sophisticated personality-shocks readers with. She peels back the layers and reveals her core through her unadulterated honesty about abusive relationships, motherhood, spirituality, pain and perseverance.

Unlike the segment, that offers advice to those who write in, Shirley didn't have a show to offer her guidance. Instead, she had to feel her way through the darkness of despair to ultimately find her light. Shirley's persona is as delicate as the fruit with which she shares a name, but that's where the similarities end. She's definitely no victim in this book. She comes out swinging as she finds a way to reinvent her whole self as a professional, happily single mother, daughter and especially friend in the midst of a string of tumultuous relationships.

Her strength, power, persistence and passion for life are motivational must-haves for all women. This book will definitely be impactful to all of her millions of "friends" who reads this book and tunes in to the show. -delmetria millener

Nice first effort but...

I pre-ordered this book because I was excited to read it. I like Shirley Strawberry, but this was an elementary effort at best. The content was good and real, but I felt that everything was cut short. This was only a teaser. This book is only 135 pages, with the last 15 or so being dedicated to Strawberry Letters. For a mature woman, I expected the writing style to be different. I felt at times that I was reading a children's book. Overall, the advise in this book was worthwhile, but Shirley's personality didn't shine throught...or maybe it did. While she does get into some very, very personal business, I felt nothing after having read it.
